I have read about cutting the spark arrester off on the pw50 for some added benefit, I have also heard that the 2 stroke engine needs back pressure. Anyways I already cut the damn thing off. Drilled about 30 holes uniformly on the tube tip and wrapped a stainless steel mesh around it. I seen this done on a ttr90 mod guide. I dont notice any ill effects, but then again I am not a pro mechanic either, any input is greatly appreciated.
The most common thing I've seen guys do is remove the baffel completley. They totally screw up the bottom end power.
Best bang for you buck or time is buying new clutch springs or modifying the stock ones shorter increasing stall speed. Second is the QT50 rear end gearing. Jetting helps a ton. When you find you need more power than this...Get a bike designed to go fast...Ala the Cobra or Polini.
