Think I understand this right from what I've read in my search here, but just want to be certain...

I have a QT50 rear end/housing with gears, brake, etc... available to buy. My understanding is that the drive shaft which the pinion is on is too short, and I need to use the PW shaft.

So... is my best bet to swap in the PW shaft and use the QT housing and all, or to get the gears out of the QT and fit them into the PW unit?

I'm not certain as to how worn the QT stuff is, so who knows, that might drive me to just use the gears. But given that all is in good working order, what's the best method?

Thanks for any feedback :)

the only think you need that might not be readily available is a hydraulic press. The process is simple:
  1. Press QT shaft out of QT gear
  2. Press PW shaft out of PW gear
  3. Press QT gear onto PW shaft
Now you're done.

good luck
