Is it time to get rid of the production rule? Motocross bike technology has not made any major leaps for a long time except for 4-strokes (way back in 1997). Alot of major support and satellite race teams get factory support anyways so what is the need for the rule anymore? Currently the major brands work to perfect their production models. I think if the AMA gets rid of it they will make major advancements in both motor and chassis technology that the they will be able to pass down to their production models making them that much better. I don't know, just a thought.

gonna be damn near only factory guys at the sx races next year anyways with the new qualifying rules, so they might as well get rid of the production rule, not like Joe Local is even gonna be allowed to race on the track, so who cares if his bike is the same?

Only if you want to pay $ 50,000 or more for your next racer. The production rule is designed to keep the costs down for the average person.

The new qualifying rules are designed to keep people that don't belong on a pro track from hurting themselves or others. This is the way it used to be in AMA racing. You had to prove yourself as a amateur before mixing it up with the big kids. Makes for better racing and less accidents.

Aprilia's RXV/SXV's were legal...until the AMA banned them for NO good reason!!! The new Honda CRF 150 thumper is ILLEGAL, but rules are expected to be changed to accomodate it! ;(

Realize that currently ONLY the Big Five are even legal to race in an AMA MX!

Privateers sponsored by:

Aprilia
Beta
Gas Gas
Husqvarna (they were legal...)
Husaberg
TM
China manufacturers
etc...

Aren't currently allowed to race! Crazy stuff the current rules. :(
