One blip of the throttle of my 6.2 Banks Blazer rust bucket and those silly cars with erector-set wings' car alarms go off in the parking lot, 21.5:1 compression rocks their world...lota fun.. :aj: I know they got to do something, I went through that phase too, going fast lost its appeal a long time ago for me, but tacky is tacky is..

Ya but the fieros are rwd mid engine 2 seaters, a 400hp sbc is reliable too, One of my considerations was to put a chevy 302 in one and build the motor to rev, how fun would it be to pull up to ricers waste them in a race, and with a pushrod motor out rev thiers. Oh and btw i did hte math and rechecked it with the 5 speed getrag and a chevy 302 the fiero could theoretically hit 160+ on a highway, i belive at 9000 it hit 173 when i did the speed calculator...not that i or th car would handle it well.

You got it, Pred. That was a good motor. R/S ratio is reputed to be one of the major engineering pro's of that motor, but there's a builder down in AZ that talks a lot about a relationship between the bore diameter (or area?) and some aspect of the stroke. I can't recall the details, but that motor could sing all day at 7000rpm. I never drove one, but did experience a 327 fuelie corvette--similar motor. And very, very nice. :thumb:

yeah, the Chevy 302 works along the same lines as what Yamaha was going for with the original YZ400F. Bigger bore, short stroke. Rev's to the moon (relatively, of course ;))

   Hey Lemming... you're only half right.  :)   That car dynoed 305 at the wheels bone stock.  A procharger spins up half an atmosphere for me... :debil:

Other than bikes.... there's not much I see on a daily basis that can run away from me.  :)

My neighborhood isn't one of ricers, or of american displacement cars :flame: If I drove the two blocks down my street I would see (top three): 99 Lotus Esprit, new M3 (temp. tags), 3 yr old M3. I like our street

I can make me a chevy 302 all you need is a 327 block and a 283 crank, they made ones that had same size journals so it can and was made. The 4 inch bore and 3 inch stroke made it rev wicked , a ford 289hypo is kinda the same and a gm 305 is the opposite. If i made it i was thinkin dual quad tunnel ram with 2 500 edelbrocks, like a 240-250 degree duration cam, 1.6 rockers, solid pushrods of course, a forged steel crank, alluminum flywheel and maybe 10-1 pistons too keep it goin with octane booster.

Fark,

What's that charger charging? 305 at the wheels is pretty good. How's it handle on sharp turns?

I register around 7psi... I have the tap for the guage right before the brake booster. I can't really talk about the handling... I'm no road racer and don't throw it into corners (too) hard. :) However I have watched a few F bodies at the local auto cross and they get whooped by the compacts and Ms. They look so huge out there! LOL

It's the best handling car I've ever driven but I've never driven anything exotic. To be honest... when I was shopping for the car it was that or an older M3. I kinda have a passion for the musclecar thing though. Before this car I had a mild 5.0L with a small shot of nitrous. My best was 12.80 with that car and I miss it. :(

I'll get behind the wheel of an M someday though!

The 5.0L is history. Someone smacked me on the way home from the racetrack. So ironic. The replacement is a 99 Z28.

Lemming, I'm all for it. I'll buy you a beer afterwards too. I have a nice regimen of twisties here, you won't be dissapointed. :)

Lemdog, that's a beautiful machine. Enjoy it!
Jeffdog, i can't say enough good things about the LS1. It has a few design weaknesses but the motors are unparalleled. Take a ride in one. Or click on that link and check the dyno sheet. Note the torque curve (or lack thereof!). :aj:
