rm250 wont start please help

i have a 94 suzuki rm 250 that is a pain to start and sometimes wont start,,,,, i just replaced the reeds and the carb boot thinking that would help because thats what i was told but it didnt. i put a new plug in it and still nothing. today after about 20 min. and a blister on my foot later it started but would not idle and it would rev up real high. to me its almost like its not getting enough gas in it. any ideas would be great because im about to say piss on it and sell it as is,

Make sure the throttle slide is bottoming out in the carb. Snap the throttle shut and listen for it to hit bottom. Adjust the throttle cable freeplay if necessary.

Same thing happened to me on my old TS250, kicked it numerous times then it started but stayed at the full throttle position. I took the carb off and the carb slider was stuck in the full throttle position. I had to file the plastic carb sliding nob so it would move freely. Now it works fine and I have no problems. :cool:

ok all i checked that and its perfect, i heard about timing, would that have anything to do with it and if so how do i do that? thnks im starting to get really bumbed about it.

I don't think it would be your timing, it's pretty fixed on a dirt bike. A bad ignition box could throw it off, but those are expenisve and you don't want to have to replace it. I would start by checking the bike thoroughly for air leaks. Check along the split between the crankcase halves, the cylinder base gasket, the left side crankshaft seal (this is a likely cause of your problem), and look for signs of rocks cracking the front and bottom of the crankcase. Double check the gaskets around the reeds, but it sounds like you have already replaced these.

Clogged pilot jet or air leak.Look no further. New gaskets don't mean squat either :nod:
