G'day guys n gals,

Recently the time has come to change fork seals on my old trusty RMX. No problems disassembling the first one. In fact I found the fork quite easy to disassemble and rebuild. The problem started on the second one. Before removing the fork I usually undo the nut on top a couple of turns (Much easier to undo it on the bike than in a vice). Using a 17mm socket and rattle gun, couldn't release it. Tried using 17mm socket and breaker bar.... nothing other than a stripped nut. I am now stuck. The only ways I can think to remove the nut are all destructive. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try?

Cheers.

I didn't loosen it because I thought it would just spin inside the clamp. Probably enough pressure applied from the lower clamp to stop that though. Makes sense that the thread would be tighter with the top clamp tight (Didn't need to loosen it for the other side). Hmmmm..... I'll try loosening it. Before resorting to vice grips I will file the nut down to the closest size to fit a socket.

Thanks for a good idea!
Cheers.
