I need help! I have a RMZ 250 2005 that will not kick start, i can push start it and it runs good no problems at all, but It want kick over. I even let it get to tdc and then I kick it. I have tore down the motor and the piston top is covered with carbon if that helps. thanks for your help, I don't know what to do.

Oh yeah. the bike backfires bad while riding when I lift off the throttle.

Did you check your valve adjustment? While your head is off, (and the camshaft is in place) pour gasoline into the ports to see if the valves are sealing. If the gas leaks past the valves, you either need to re-adjust the valve clearance or do a valve job.

Thanks for the info, the valve clearance spec is .04 to .06 and i can get a .12 gauge in there, which I wouldn't think would be a problem, but when I did the leak test by pouring gas in the intake with the valves fully closed, it leaked!

Sooooo. the springs might be shot??? I don't think I can tighten the valves up with shims. If nobody has any ideas I will go ahead and get the whole valves redone. thanks.
