Darrell-
Thanks for the advice on other people. I'll have to wear my sling a little extra time to forewarn that I'm a hurting unit.
Geez, I sure hope I don't take that long to heal up. They didn't exactly say, but it sounded like I can trail ride in 6 weeks or so. Maybe, that's over optimism, though. I know this- before surgery, I couldn't even ride the BMX bike very hard w/o pain, so something had to be done. If it takes that long, maybe I'll have to change my nick to MN Fisherman.
Re-reading your description of your injury, I think mine wasn't nearly so severe. I would imagine that yours involved additional tissue damage besides the liagaments getting stretched/torn.
I don't know if the procedure used on me is new, but here's what he did-
- Grind off some of the outer end of the collarbone (end that stuck upwards) and drill some attachment holes.
- Take a different good ligament and reconnect it.
- Add an "artificial" ligament (zip-tie?) ;
to help beef things up
- reconnect as many of the smaller lig as possible.
- while he was in there, he took a scope and checked out the rotator, etc. Everything else = ok.
- no pins!
