KDX200 with 10th digit J=1988 in VIN. on frame.

JustKDX recommends factory manual but KwSaki site shows no manual available. ebay has plenty of '85 and '87 manuals but no '88.

1. Anyone know if '87 is close enough to '88 to be usable?
2. If not, hows the Clymer? I remember them being tolerable but several mechs including this site recommend factory.
3. Were there several models withing the KDX200 line? I've seen C1 and some others. How can I tell what I've got?

Thoughts?

Thanks

There is a Kawasaki OEM 1988 KDX200 specific manual. As the carburetor is different and a few other things, I would suggest you get the 1988 specific manual. It has a white cover, NOT a lime green cover. Here is the cheapest one on eBay right now. eBay sellers almost always list them as 1987 manuals, when they are actually for the 1988 model. Take a look at the picture on the cover, and you should be able to see the 1988 style seat cover.

The Clymer is good also, but I prefer OEM over it. I do own both, for reference on where I am coming from, not talking about OEM vs. Clymer in general, just 1988 KDX200 specifically.

The C series was 1986 - 1988, with your bike's full model being a KDX200-C3. 1986 was KDX200-C1. 1987 was KDX200-C2.

A 1986 or 1987 manual will be worthless to you on the carb, as 1988 has the better Keihin carb instead of the 1986 and 1987 models' Mikuni. I am not referring to Keihin vs. Mikuni in general, just that the VM34SS (sp?) on the previous two models was not as good as the PWK35 on the 1988.

Congratulations on having a 1988 KDX200. Good luck with it.

Will poke around for a while. May see you all in the "asking for help" threads if I have no luck. This is a project bike for me and nephews.

Thanks

Anyone knows where to get a KDX 250 manual ?
Or a 1989 KX 250 manual as this appears to be the same engine ? There are a few on Ebay but my bike is the SR model whereas those manuals are for the enduro model and since I am not a big DIY guy anyway (won't go beyond changing a piston)I don't like the idea of paying close to $60 with shipping for something of limited use.

Thanks for mentioning which country you are in. Most people on this forum are in the USA. The SR models were never available in the USA, so information is scarce.

The KDX200 was available in only one model in the US. The first year was 1983, with the A1.
From there it went each year to the A2, & A3, then C1 through C3, then E1 through E6, then to H1 through H11 (allthough the H-series were not in numerical order for some unknown reason), the last and best ( ;) ) year being the H6F.
