My 03 YZ250 is having the rear shock serviced, and while it is out I have been looking at the linkage. The rear linkage has some side to side free play, however there is no torsional play in the link at all and the radial movement is clean as well. My question is, should there be free play in the linkage from side to side on the linkage bolt? This is a new bike for me and overall the bike is clean and well taken care of. Thanks for your time, and input.

So I am still looking for an answer? should there be some side to side freeplay in a shock linkage, or should it be snug and only move in the intended motion? The freeplay is only about 5mm or so.

I would think a little would be acceptable since the linkage is not designed to move that way. Remember, the only preassure put on the needle bearing is when it is rotated by the suspension moving up and down. If it were my bike I would take it apart, regrease it and go riding.
