I just bought my son an '01 Kx65. The bike is in brand new shape and was run for like a month then sat in the previous owners garage for 2 yrs. Do the reeds 'go bad' if they've sat for that long? Should I replace them and if so what should I get?

If they sit flat on the cage and aren't cracked or chipped they don't need to be replaced.

I guess I should've explained that I'm new to 2-strokes. I know what the reeds look like but I've never opened a bike up to replace them. I've done work on 4 strokes but my experience with 2-strokes is very limited. Where is the cage?

On the engine side of the carb. Take out the carb then take off the rubber coupler (should be held on by bolts) then the reed cage and rubber coupler should pull out.
