Well, here is my thought. I have an 88 and probably will keep it until I cant get parts anymore. I had an 86 from 87 until 95, I have owned the 88 since. I am very familar with the bike and not much can go wrong that I cant fix myself. It is in good shape but if it gets a scratch or small ding it is no big deal. Not like if I had a new one. If mechanical problems are bothering you maybe park it and fix things that are wrong, do preventive maintenance. I have found the c models to be dependable when taken care of. The trade in value of your 86 is about like my 88. 4 to 6 hundred dollars. I have spent that on mine in the last 3 months. I guess it would be nice to have a new KDX and be able to ride without working on the bike, but making payments on something that is going to depreciate very fast doenst sound so good
