I am 32yrs old and in pretty good condition physically. Eleven weeks ago i crashed at my local track on a set of doubles and cracked two ribs and tore a ligament in my shoulder. Ribs have pretty much healed but my shoulder is still only about 65% healed. Doctor said shoulder injuries are tricky. I rode the first time since my crash two weeks ago and come over a jump and thought I had popped it out of joint. Has anyone else had a similar shoulder injury and if so do you still have complications? i have been racing and riding tracks for about seven years and other than a few cracked ribs over the years this is my first shoulder injury and it sucks. :yikes:

i feel your pain(literaly) this sunday i was at a track riding and i realized my radiator on my 01 KX 125 was leaking alot. so instead of running the risk of blowing my bike up my friends dada suggested i ride there extra 250f. wasn't the first time i rode that bike but it had been a while since i had been on a fourstroke. so i take a couple laps and i really didn't notice i difference besides the power. well as im comming into the whoops some how the bike got sideways and when i landed doin 35-40+ the bike threw me off. i hit the ground and landed on my head and rolled a couple times(dont remember kinda blacked out a little.) well when my family finaly gets me up i realized i couldn't move my left arm much, and some bone in my left shoulder was apparently sticking way up. so my parents get me to the ER and then 5-6 hours later after xrays they said some bone called a coracoid broke. The docter said that its an extreamly rare bone to break and that hes only seen that bone broken twice in the last 20 years. he thinks that when i fell my shoulder tried to dislocate itself but the force of the impact broke my coracoid instead. im probably going to be out for 6-8 weeks atleast which suxs bcus i have alot of series races coming up and im in first in all of them

Your crash was way more serious than mine. Maybe I need to count my blessings. I know how bad mine hurts so I can not imagine what you are going through. My crash happened on a set of doubles that I have jumped numerous times without any problems. And I too got sideways in the air and I am still not sure how that happened. I hope you have a fast recovery.

You're probably gonna have this now for the rest of your life. Any Ortho guy you go to will shy you away from trying something surgical about it either.

After my 2nd collarbone break... my shoulders been real "loose" for lack of better words. Certain lifts I have to limit my range of motion or it just feels like someone is tearing my arm outta my socket.

If you've been given the OK to ride again... I HIGHLY suggest spending a LOT of extra time CAREFULLY working-out your shoulders. Ask your Ortho to recommend exercises that will help over time.

And ask your Dr to try a Rx of Ketoprofen (brand name Orudis).

I would not be able to ride DirtBikes or Downhill MTB... heck or even workout ANY of my upper body were it not for Ketoprofen.

If I run outta my Rx I'll use Ibuprofen in a pinch... but Ibuprofen at the higher doses needed for injuries like this torque-out my stomach a lil and also make me sleepy. Ketoprofen doesn't do either.

And I'll tell ya... each time I forget to take it and go to gym or do some exerting.. it snaps me back into the reality of just how much it is helping me.

I hope this helps.

Yes I agree. Your shoulder will hurt for ever now. I dislocated mine dirtbikin when I was 20. I had surgery because it was so lose I am now 41 and had my 2nd surgery 1 1/2 yrs ago. I dont have as much pain now but my mobility sucks. But I can still ride. Do as much excersize as you can to strengthen your shoulder up and keep doing them. Good luck

i tore the muscles in my left shoulder over a year ago and it still burns when i ride the only thing that hels is ibuprofin or cortizone shots (ibuprofin is cheaper) i try to take it easy on it but it hurts most the time doc's cure was to take 6 weeks off from riding and work. but since im not a doc i dont have the money to miss 6weeks and dont want to claim disability so i stick w/ the ibuprofin

At 15 I'm betting you heal and you won't notice it all that much - until you hit 30 or so. Then you'll start feeling it again. I dislocated my left shoulder in a high side road racing when I was 19. They popped in back in with me leaned up against the ambulance and suggested I go see a doctor about it - I didn't. It started popping as I'd move my shoulder around about 7 years later and 11 years after the dislocation (at 30) I had to have my first surgery on that shoulder and over the next 4 years I had another one on that shoulder, 1 on my right, and 2 vertabrae fused in my neck - all do to road racing injuries I incurred between the ages of 18 and 20 (had to retire at 20 after a bad crash where I broke my back in 3 places and did some brain and nerve damage). So in short, you'll probably recover but will pay later in life.

i know i shouldnt be doing this until it fully heals, but i actually got my arm ABOVE MY HEAD TODAY!!!! it hurt like hell, but i feel like im getting back some basic motor skills in my arm.

one question though

after i put my arm back down(or rather when i couldn't support it anymore and it fell down) i heard two popping sounds right in the shoulder area where my bone is broken? didn't feel any pain and haven't noticed it harder to move my arm, but didn't exactly sound like a good thing

If you haven't been using it much it's probably scar tissue breaking up. It's typical to have a good bit of that after a surgery and with the break you had you'll probably see the same. It would definitely be worth a call to your doctor though.

6 months ago I tore my rotator cuff completely which is prety rare most people dont manage to have a 100% cuff tear but my fat a** did, now Im even fatter but I have recently started to ride again. During my dislocation of my shoulder I managed to damage the nerve for my deltoid resulting in temporary paralization of my deltoid muscle. I still can't get my arm straight out in front of me but I can still ride, kinda.... you can adapt to almost any situation.
