Side stand bolts loose....anything else that falls off?

Just finished servicing the 220R and man, that air filter was sooooo dirty after the last Kings Hill HnH......most likely from eating Daryl Bolter's mushroom cloud roost!

Anyway, I found the side stand bolts real loose, there was no danger of loosing them as they have 'Nylok nuts'. She has now covered 1,200 miles most of which has been off-road so with only two loose bolts I'm real pleased, but didn't think to check the security of these fittings.

Are there any not so obvious nuts, bolts fixtures that need a regular 'tweak' I always check things such as wheel nuts, triple clamps, handlebars, shock fittings, plastics?

.......ohh for what it's worth I always 'tape over' the bolts that fasten the plastics so, if they do come loose I don't loose them, any other tips most welcome

After every hard ride I check all fasteners. If any are loose they get drilled and safety wired. They have only ONE chance to fall off. I have also safety wired all mandatory screws and nuts: drain plug, front axle cap nuts, etc. Rock On.

cheers guys, have checked all of the suggestions and all is fine, and I will be Blue Loctiting the offending parts waiting to be liberated.

...on the subject of spokes I have never quite understood how tight and the correct technique for tightening....I think as long as they 'ring' when struck with a spanner (which mine do) they are tight enough and a little tightening goes a long way! I think wheel building is one those witchcraft skills

...ohh the rider on my KDX tends to fall off as well :whoa:

cheers

Velcro. One side on the seat, the other on the offending rider's pants. You can always resort to duct tape as well.

My shifter came loose, and a few spokes, and the top nut on the steering stem. I've taken my kickstand on and off probably 50 times (dual sport I use it, racing/trails I don't). Never used any locktite or anything and never had it come loose.

I lost 2 shroud bolts from putting them in too loose, and also f'd up a set of reeds because either I didn't tighten the screws enough, or the lockwashers were too mushed out to hold like they should have. Either way, there is new screws, lockwashers, and blue locktite in there now! Could have been far worse!

Woh, that really could've been a lot worse!

Adam, I gota ask and I know I'm gonna regret this........... why do you leave your kickstart at home...is it easily spooked on the dark trails, is this a means to equalise the weight of both sides, perhaps it's an andrenaline thing..... as it must get kind of hairy if you stall the engine half way up a hill? ;)

I don't always take it off for trails, in fact it usually stays on. But when I go riding with my moto buddies I leave it behind. Why? It doesn't stay up when riding hard. Watching video of pounding through the whoops it is constantly coming down and hitting the ground. It hasn't caused any problems as far as digging in and putting me on my head, but I believe it is part of the reason the joint is getting all worn out and sloppy.

Most tracks will make you take it off when racing. Plus, I strip all extra weight stuff off when racing, and the kickstand isn't exatly light (although I'm sure if I got in better shape I'd lose more weight than lights/kickstand add to the bike).
