i have an 01 250 and it was tough to get out.mine had bolts though,on the end the connects to the pipe.they say to just take the little bolt out on the bottom side of the silencer and start the bike and kinda block of the exhaust hole and crack the throttle for a bit and that should blow any junk out.not much of a clean out but thats what they say.also mine had the slient sport packing in it,but i just replaced it with normal packing.i would just keep tapping on it and turning it,maybe with a rubber mallet or a block of wood.

I think the S/A is glued as well as riveted so you may need to persuade it with the blue wrench. This could also cause a fire so be carefull. I thought about removing mine to clean it but it seemed like a lot of trouble for very little benefit.

so you dont think its worth the effort. you see i bought the bike last spring and immediatley bought a fmf q silencer for it. so ive never used it. im on a quest to make my bike a quiet as possible. i hear that the stocker is quiter, so now im gonna try using it. i know that they originally weight alot but this thing feels like its packed full of crap.

exc rider no i dont race. wifey is a nurse and she thinks its a bad idea. but i am a square deal rider, do you know anything about the winter series we are holding

You should be able to remove the SA. They can be stubborn though.

IF you can't get it out, I would burn the crud out of it with a torch. It will smoke A LOT and may catch fire. If it does, just blow it out. Sounds worse that it is. Gloves are a must!

yes i usually work. behind the bar in the club house, i have been known to sell numbers before the race. ive only been a club member a year so im pretty new around there. by the way my name is mark devine.

bikeguy im gonna try to get it out. i originally drilled out the rivets and tried to pound it out with a broom handle and it was working, albiet very slowly and i gave up thinking there must be something else holding it in. i was worried that i was damaging the inside mating pipe of the spark arrestor(if you know what i mean) so i stopped. as far as the burning is concerned, should i just fire down into the silencer and watch out for flames.

Actually the process of changing the silencer packing is pretty painless. and it is something you should do on a normal basis. Depending on how much you ride, you may have to change it every few months. If you took the rivets out, you are working with the wrong end, take the 4 bolts out of the end that attaches to the pipe. The canister will eventually come off this end, revealing your packing in one form of detioration or another. Replace it the same way you remove it. The whole process takes me about 30 minutes including clean up. You might be surprised at how much iol is soaked in that packing material, especially if it has never been changed.

im not trying to be rude but i know how to change SILENCER packing all i want to do is completley clean the carbon and goo out of my SPARK ARRESTOR. i replace silencer packing a few times a year.i replaced the packing in my fmf 3 times last year. its cheap and easy. i dont think the fella before me ever changed the packing or cleaned the spark arrestor out.

Use simple green, soak the arrestor. Also, sodium hydroxide will work, you can find that stuff at a head shop, used to clean bongs. The stuff works perfect. I used to smoke, but go there to get that stuff to clean gunk on my bike....

ok, i got it out with the "blue wrench". i heated up the outside of the silencer and pounded a broom handle against the inside pipe and it popped out. it was full of carbon so i just put it on the same broom handle and again used a torch to clean it it stills weighs a ton but im still going to try it because my mission is to make it a quiet as possible.
