Spliting gas tanks

I have read on the forums that some KDX's have been known to develope cracks in the gas tanks. Are there any one style or year that seems to be worst than the others? Does anyone make a replacement tank in the aftermarket?

Where the threads for the filler meet the tank body is where the split occurs. Looks like the cap was put on too tight or you hit a rock with the cap. Kawasaki will replace for free but some dealers need a little push to get it going.
They checked my registration, my driver license, the title before authorizing a replacement.

IMS makes an oversize 3.4 gallon replacement tank that sells for around $225. A stocker from ronayers.com will cost around $265.
