Sprocket

I have an 04 crf250x - it has 14 in front and 53 in rear...

I am in need of a new chain and sprockets... if I drop down to a 51 rear would I need to change out the front?

What are you trying to accomplish with the change?

My first gear is pointless, I roll 5 feet and need to go into 2nd... I ride trails and little hills...

I have CRF250R and race MX...I typically gear bikes down to get more use out of 4th and 5th. Rule of thumb 3-4 teeth change on back is approx. to 1 tooth on front sprocket. Changing 2 teeth on rear sprocket is pretty minor in my opinion and would not warrant a change on front.
