I have a broken decompression release lever on my YZF250, is it possible to start the bike without it? I would like to ride while I wait on my new lever.

starting issue with a YZF250

I have a broken compression release lever on my YZF250. Can I start the bike without it? I would like to ride while I wait on my new lever.

If you can kick it over, then sure, you could probably start it, but you might hurt your foot.

You can easily but the drill just takes slightly longer. This is how:

1) Ease the kick start down until you feel compression.
2) Instead of operating the decomp, gently push the kickstart through against the compression until leakdown permits you to approach TDC. You'll feel it get easier as TDC approaches but don't kick through TDC.
3) Allow the kickstart to return to the top and kick through as you normally would.

You should only need the decompressor to bump the piston past TDC (top dead center). It will be a little harder to do without the lever, but I know it wouln't stop me from riding the bike.
