Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Stewart Out for the Season

IRVINE, Calif. –Monster Energy Kawasaki announced today that James Stewart will sit out the remainder of the 2007 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship with a knee injury.

Stewart injured the knee in competition on July 29 in Washington and skipped the following round to rest the knee in hopes of returning to action. But after visiting with knee specialists the past couple of weeks, Stewart decided to end his season and opt for knee surgery, which could be conducted early next week.

“Our goal was to try and finish out the season but we had to look at the long term effects of doing so,” said Team Manager Mike Fisher. “After carefully evaluating all the factors involved, it became clear that preparing for the future was the only viable choice. Kawasaki is behind James 100 percent and we wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Stewart, 21, won both AMA Supercross and World Supercross titles earlier this season and was leading the AMA Motocross point standings prior to injury his knee.

“I am really bummed that things had to end the way they did, but I really needed to look at my future,” said Stewart. “While I would have liked to have had the chance to win the outdoor title, I know that my health and my long term career are far more important. I am definitely looking forward to the 2008 Supercross season where I hope to bring home both titles again.”

Time for things to get interesting..... although I would love to see Ferry win (always been a big Red Dog fan), I'm thinking Langston will take the title, as he has really turned it up in the second half of the season. But one bad moto could change everything. Short, Alessi, and Windham all have a chance at the title as well.... 3 races to go.... let the fun begin!! :ride:

Injuries is a part of the sport that I could do without.

I hope Stewart gets healthy and comes back swinging next year because he is truly amazing to watch.

McGrath and Carmichael's run from 93 to present with very few injuries and a bunch of titles is amazing. I have no idea how you go that fast and crash so little.

I will be cheering for Ferry the rest of the way. A title would give him some confidence heading into the MX of Nations.

Too bad about Bubba. If he was at 100% and won out, he had an excellent chance.

Windham is 56 points back with 6 motos to go. He's out of it. No way he is gaining an average of 6 points a moto on Short and Ferry the rest of the way.

I think Alessi's chances are almost non-existant. Even if he wins a couple of motos, he's in trouble.

Grant has the momentum. I think he is the favorite, but it will come down to the last moto. My guess is he will win the title by less than 5 points over Ferry.

Short will run up front, but Ferry and Langston seem to run harder at the end of the moto, so I like their chances better than Shorty's.

Or they cancel Glen Helen and give it to Langston :nener:

Bummer about Bubba, but, It makes the series interesting for the fan

Langston does seem to be in the drivers seat right now.....

Short does seem to be fading, but he could dig down deep and find something....

Ferry is going to be so hungry he can eat a lion... this WILL BE his last chance at a title. The guy is going on 33 and probably won't get this chance again... Of course he knows that and the pressure of it all could come up and bite him....

That brings us back to Langston.... He's been here before and lost, and been here before and won..... so he knows what it is going to take.

All that said...... I guess we will see what happens because anything can and might happen.....
