Suspension lowering questions

I'm planning on getting my wife a new(er) bike, and I'm going to have the suspension lowered at both ends (she's 5'3").

I'd like to lower the suspension by 1 1/2" to 2". Will the springs need to be cut down? Will I have to get lighter springs (and possibly cut them down)?

Any suggestions are appreciated!

The springs will need to be changed , due to the shorter shaft travel . Have a professional do this , like, MX-Tech.
