i dont have a service manual for my 96cr250 but i want to inspect the suspension linkage(was hearing sounds i didnt like when landing sunday). would it be safe to possibly use the torque values for say a 00cr500's suspension linkage? also if i need to replace any bearings is it hard? do anyneed to be pressed in? if so could it be done w/ like a vise or something?
My manual for my '98 says 85 ft. lbs.
You can't damage the bearings by tightening the swingarm too tight.
If the bearings haven't been serviced, then they might need replacing.
Pretty simple job.
I don't always agree with the torque specs found in manuals. For the motor it's best to follow the manual, but the suspension and linkage torque specs are always high. Who needs their swingarm at 85 ft/lbs?! 40 is fine. I usually set the linkage bolts at 30 ft/lbs and the swingarm a little more. It's not necessary to make it so tight its impossible to get off.
well said, how can i tell if the bearings are toasted? i put the bike on a bucket and i can lift the rear end a little bit, not much but a little. there is no side to side play.
