Tahuya update

Subject: Tahuya State Forest information Focus meeting is Sept 2

We will be sending out a agenda for the Focus group meeting at the end of the
month. The meeting will be held at the library 7:00 PM on Sept 2

It has been a busy summer in the Tahuya despite the dusty trail conditions many
riders are frequenting the forest.

E&E Program: We now have a dedicated fully commissioned officer. Glen has
been out on the ground for the last last 2 weeks.

Campground info: No fires are permitted. Camp Spillman is partially closed
until this Friday evening

Trail info: The Raines grade trail will be open soon. As the result of a
Timber Sale, one portion of the Tahuya River Trail has been detoured on to the
Used Car rd. The Tahuya River trail will be better then ever once the harvest
is complete....with the help of the BCMC we designed a new route that it will
follow.

Starting next week and continuing for about 10 months, potions of the Mission
Creek Trail may be closed for a Pole sale. These will be one or two day
closures and hopefully most will occur during the week. Please be cautious.
This is a minimal impact harvest.

Before winter the Overland Trail will be re-routed just East of the Gravel pit.
This will eliminate the stream / wet area crossing. The crew moved a portion
of the trail off the Tiger 2A road.

The MCYC trails will be re-configured this fall. We will need volunteer help
with this project



4x4 Trail: The quadra paws have re-worked the entrance to the trail. This
is now a "4x4" mini trailhead. Good Job folks. Nissan "launched there new
Pathfinder" on the trail. Monies came to the trust and trail for this event

The DNR's lack of law enforcement is a reoccuring theme.

Is there any visible sign of any enforcement currently on any DNR land? Land managers have assured me that it exists, but . . . . . .

Off-road vehicle use in Tahuya State Forest will be discussed at DNR workshop in Belfair

OLYMPIA -- The State Department of Natural Resource invites the public to the ORV Planning Workshop for the Tahuya State Forest, at 6:30 p.m., Monday, September 13. The workshop will be held in the upstairs meeting room of the Belfair QFC at NE 201 State Route 300.



The purpose of the workshop is to identify trail and facility needs and challenges for the next ten years. Workshop participants will discuss safe trail use, overuse of trails, and balancing ORV use and other recreation opportunities with the capacity limitations of the natural resources in the Tahuya State Forest.

An ongoing working group composed of representatives from ORV organizations and other user groups has been meeting with DNR staff to explore these issues in depth. Two more workshops are planned, and will be announced at a later date.

Be sure to make this point at all DNR meetings on ORV use -

"Since DNR has recreation sites where ORV use is not allowed it would only be fair if DNR also had sites where ORV use is provided for and other recreation use is prohibited if it is not fully compatible with ORV use."
