Hey guys. For starters i'm 6'5 around 240lb and VERY new to riding bikes. My friend had a small ( compared to me, perfect for him ) honda something. I'm not sure how many guys saw it but it was the same one in that honda commercial that some guy ( a pro rider i forgot his name ) with a whole family is at the track ( that was the focus of the commercial, being able to provide bikes for everyone in the family. It was red with white and black in it ( i believe yellow letters was somewhere in there ).

Anyway my friend had that same one and i think it said 1000 on the side eh. I rode it for about 2 hrs ( first time ever on a bike ). Besides it being hella small it was fun. I learned a lil about gear switching and just the joy of riding had me hooked instantly. Until the time i was at a red light, gassed it too much, let off the clutch too quick, did a wheelie, somewhat fell off the back, still holding on to the handle bars, ( couldnt reach the back brake because it was so small ) slammed back down, swirved and crashed into the side
of a car. I and the car survived with just some scratches but i wasn't discouraged as i saw it as just something that happens to newbies. LOL i wanted to get right back on the bike 20 minz later.

Anyway, the choices i've gathered from searching are:

1: KDX200 or 220. I've heard so many good things about this model bike from almost every beginner thread i've read.

2: xr250. I don't know what company makes this bike, saw it in a thread or two.

3: 250F. I don't know what company makes this bike either. I saw it in a thread for a guy that was 6'+ 230+ and just threw it in the list. The quote was " You'll be alot happier and learn alot faster on a 250F. and it's easier to ride.
I think with your height and weight, a 250F would be a better choice. "

Alright well those are the most bikes i've seen throughout my searches. As for what i want out of the bike: Just something to really learn how to ride on. I may take it for some trails ( which is about the utmost i'll be doing ), but mainly just for transportation and to gain riding experiance.

Geez, this was quite a long post but i'd really appreciate it if you guys can help me out.

TIA

good [post, but those bikes on your list are not what your looking for. You need a bike that can be driven on the road, if your going to use it for transportation. Honda makes a dual sport bike which is an XR400. Dual sport means it is a dirtbike, with different tires, and blinkers and stuff to make it street legal. this means, ull be able to use it for transportation whenever u need, and if you ever have the urge to jump on a trail on the way home from work, go for it!

was my bad... I guess Honda doesnt make the street legal XR 400 anymore. they have a 650, but that might be a little much for you. your next option would be to go to a suzuki DRZ 200S or DRZ400S. I would reccomend the 400 over the 200, as it will be underpowered for a 4 stroke. hope this helps

Cool, thanks KDX. So these seem to be my choices huh ?

Can i ask if this type of bike is a low maintenance type of bike ? I mean i won't be using it everyday but when i do use it i'd like for it to just be available as quick as possible.

Do you know if there is a used version of this bike or is it a new one ?

Around what price should i find fair for a used one ?

Thanks again !

Yes, this will be a ver low maintence bike. since you will be doing mostly street riding, that makes it even lower maintence. All you will need to do is change the oil, clean the air filter, and adjust and lube the chain. and this maintence eill only need to be done at very little. I forgot to mention that there are more options, and the options I am giving you are within the four main Japanese bikes. I would reccomend one of thsese 4 because the parts are so easy to get. Kawasaki Makes some dual sport bike, and so does yamaha. Im not exactly sure on this, but the yamahas dont seem like as good of a bike as the other 3 manufacturers, so I am eliminating them out. also, I would reccomend getting a dual sport bike of at least 250 CC's. I am also only mentioning the bikes that are dirtbikes, made into street, because they have a tougher suspension and taller seat height, as you said you will need. All of the prices are in US dollars. Also, the used suggested price will be for a REALLY GOOD condition bike. Here is a list of the bikes, and there suggested used and new prices...

Manufacturer Bike Name New$ Used$

KAWASAKI KLX400SR $5500 3000 UP

SUZUKI DRZ400S $5500 3000 UP
