I'm still on my first bike, 85 XR100R. I hope to keep it for my mom and as a learning/play bike, but if I need more money than I might have to sell it.

1975 yamaha YZ 360 monoshock with the yellow tank and the nylon triangular strap on it. With the close ratio trans, it seemed like you could go through the gears in about 50 feet. It was cutting edge at the time so I sold my 73 CR 250 for it(big mistake). The CR was the best bike but I should have kept the yamaha. I'm like any other racers of the 70's if I had kept or bought cheap, the mx bikes of that time, I would have a great collection now. Like they say "if a frog had wings". later

The Lutefisk machine

Hehe...the ol 84 Husqvarna WR250. Complete with dual ohlins shocks, and left-sided, forward throw kickstart. Plus the expansion chamber that went directly over the spark plug...what a pain in the ass!! Swedish engineering is definitely different stuff! Man what a cool bike when it ran (it was a short of the lighting coil)!!!
Wished i still had it...dad sold it cause he thought it was his. Now that im married, the ol lady would have loved to have that bike. Oh well, what can you do?

The bike that I LEARNED to ride on:scream:. That was the nastiest little steel monster on the planet at the time. Steel tank, dual shocks, front wheel that never touched the ground, oh. how I pine for that little thing:( . My second bike, the one I bought in 1983, is the one that I still ride. I'll keep it until I die (which may not be that far away if I'm not careful:debil: ).

First real bike(?) a 1969 Honda CT-70, 4 speed , with the clutch, my dad said we needed to learn to use a clutch.-would be great for my kids to learn to ride on.

1970 Honda SL 100- absolutely bulletproof, would be great to teach my wife how to ride.

1973 Suzuki TM-125- I was so cool with this bike, note I said cool - not fast, would be a great vintage bike today.

1974 Honda XL-350 Bought for $275.00 in 1980, big mistake to let it go!

Would have loved to have kept any of those, or better yet all of them.

Best thing seen leaving the driveway was the 1992 KTM 250EXC plugfouler-ran great when it was running out of gas.

I rack my bran

Hmm the bike learned to ride on was an old Yamaha 80 I believe, around 1965 vintage or so. The first bike I actually owned was a Honda 50 mini-trail circa 1970.. I soo wanted a Maico, or a Bultaco, but just couldn't afford one for the huge sum of $600-$800 at the time. My first full sized bike was a 1970 Kawasaki 250 sidewinder.. then a 72 CZ 400, then another CZ 400 Falta replica. Then it was another Yamaha, memory seves me, a 1980 425IT, then an 82 Husky 430XC, an 84 KTM495MXC, another 81 Husky 430XC (used), and an 87 Husky 510 stroker. In 91 I bought a KTM 250 MXC and finally a 98 380 EXC.. I also had a few other bikes over the years, for the wife and kids to ride, most notably a 200 Kawi.. Out of all those bikes the one I miss the most is the old Husky XC's. But I wouldnt want to have to ride one exclusivly now, after riding the modern bikes..

Mine was actually an ATV. An '87 Honda fourtrax 250R. Answer handlebars, Boyesen reeds, steering stabilizer, aftermarket silencer(don't remember what brand), footpeg extenders, shortened swingarm, ITP Holeshots, different gearing. Was like riding a sprint car in the woods. What I try NOT to remember is how tough it was on my body! Had to sell it, didn't have enough money to support my dirt bike habit.:(

re: KTM the guy I bought it from said " don't mess with the jetting, it is spot on." Talked to the local KTM dealer and jetted to his spec, but it still fouled plugs. Finally got tired of messing with it.

79 CR 125

Back in 79 a kid in my neighborhood bought a new cr for 1200 dollars, next season he sold it to one of my buds for 650.

I'll never forget the first ride I took on it. I started to let it rev out (ya, this is what it's supposed to sound like) every time I let off the throttle I could feel the front wheel hit the ground. I was shaking from pure adrenaline for an hour after I got off. What a dream in the woods. It had an 18' back wheel, 23' front, no monoshock and ran perfect. At less than 125lbs (me) I probably put twice as many miles on the back tire than the front.

Anyway, he got tired of it and sold it to me for 135 bucks. Mint condition. I rode it one season until it got stuck in first gear. I tried fixing it, but gave up due to lack of funds (and knowledge) sold it for about 100 bucks.

Looking back on it, all I probably needed was new clutch discs/plates. The discs were all shattered but that's as far as I got. The day the kid drove it away in first gear was one of the saddest days I ever had, no kidding.

When I started dreaming (over 20 years later) that I still had that bike and was riding it, I knew it was time for another mx. Sometimes ya just gotta.

I remember the ct's. They were bulletproof. Another friend of mine had a yamaha enduro 80, maybe '75 or '76. It was red and oil injected. A really sweet ride. That bike would just about take off in 5th gear from a standstill.
Nice to reminisce

I had a '81 XJ 550 Seca, punched to 576cc, with a ported head and hotter cams, 11.2:1 compression, and too many other mods to list. I used to beat up on stock 650s and 750s of the time with that bike. That bike was the most fun of any street machine I ever owned. It weighed 390 lbs and handled like a bicycle. I sold it to my nephew in 1997, in mint condition, and he managed to completely rag it out in about six months. It made my sick the last time I saw that bike.

My uncle will not stop talking about his 1960 yamaha jt-60 mx with a hooker expansion chamber. (He sold it) He has this really old 1974 xr 75 that was in my grandfathers basement. When i was nine i found it laying on its side under a bunch of mattresses. and thats when i first wanted a dirtbike. I begged and begged until i was 13. then i got a pw 80 for christmas.

Speaking for my dad it could be either:

the 1947, 74 CI, Harley-Davidson that he rode from SC to CA in the early fifties when he was in the Air Force, or,

the Honda 305 Scrambler, the one with high pipes and a removable muffler, that he sold to buy,

the 1968 Triumph 650 Trophy(?) that he bought new and sold to buy,

the 1970 Triumph 650 Trophy(?) that he bought new and sold to buy,

the 1975 Kawasaki Z1 900 that he sold in 1992 with only 14K miles on it and was completely stock,

Nah,

I think it was the 1950 something BSA Gold Star Clubman that he bought new, he still has some spare parts for and a factory Dyno sheet for the motor, and he sold it when my older sister was born, :( :( :( :(
