I am in the same situation that all of you have proably been in, what bike to buy. I am stuck between the 4-stroke or 2-stroke decision. I ride mainly trails and hillclimbs which are intermediate to more that advance riders. I have been riding for 1 year on my own bike which is a xr80 that is jacked up, but it is way to small and slow for me now. I have also riden my friends bike for at least 3 years. I mainly rode my friend's xr200 but it's a little to heavy for me. I am 15 years old, 5' 10" and 130 lbs(real skinny). I have been lookin at a ttr125 but i think i want something with a little more power. Please give me lots of suggestions:) !

thanks

you are a little tall for a ttr125... i am 5'7" and am a little big for it. that's why i'm selling mine. i suggest a yz, cr 80... they are taller and have more power than the ttr(the ttr125 is the equivelent of a 62cc engine with more weight).
one other thing, i find it anoying that almost everybody my age is taller than me...:silly:

You might consider a KDX 200 or 220. I think you're tall enough for them and they are a fairly light bike. They are a great woods bike and you can make mods to it if you want more power in the future. They are also one of the best buys out there for your dollar.

I recommend a 2 stroke 125. My 13 year-old son who is 5' 8" and weighs 130 pounds rides a 97' RM 125. He has been riding for about 5 years and this is his 3rd bike. When he turns 15 on Dec. 15th of 2002 he will be getting my 98' KX 250.:)

I am 14 5'6 135# and ride an 01' Cr125. Its a bit tall for me but I manage. Its the lightest 125 made. And i don't have problem picking it up off of the ground ( which I have had to do several times). If the jetting is good than the bottom end is good enough. It wouldn't hurt to have reeds or a pipe though. i am sure you can find a used one for a good deal that already has it on.

thanks for all the responses and please keep them coming! Earlier today i went to the local kawasaki/yamaha. i orginal was thinking about getting a kdx200. The bike is a little tall for me by about a inch or two, but i think i can fit. The dealer has a left over 01 so it;s down to 3,200 which is perfect for my price range. The next probblem is my parents. My dad has no problem with me getting it, but my mom says i don't need one(the stupid xr80) cause i already have one. My mom just doesn;t understand. I'll find a way to get one:p !:p

Get the kdx.

They are light, reliable, fairly strong, and pretty fast. You will not outgrow it in a month either, like you did (or probly. did) the 80.

Kdx or a mx 125.Sound like they would fit you size wise.Experience wise I don't know.Might have to take it easy for a while on those bikes if you are just beginning.:)

TTR is an okay play bike, if you put the BBR springs on it. I just traded ours for a KX100 for our 12 year old, and it's quite a jump. I'd like to put him on a regular 125, but he's just not ready yet. Bikes are to tall and too blisteringly fast.

Coming from an XR80 and XR200, a 2 stroke motocrosser will be an entirely different experience. On more difficult hills and trails, the 80, 100 or 125 motocross two strokes are very difficult to ride. They are high strung and do not have a lot of low end grunt. Think of them as either being on or off when it comes to power delivery.

I suggest that you look closely at the:

GasGas 200XC (this has a moderate seat heigh and excellent power delivery)
KDX 200/220

yz1rider, Theoreticaly two-strokes should produce twice the power of an equal-dicplacement four-stroke but in real life that just doesn't happen.

i think you should consider a 125 or 250 2-stroke or a 250 4 stroke. your fifteen right now and are probably going to grow a lot in the next few years and those 100 and 125 4 strokes are going to be just to small. either buy a used one of those or buy something new you can grow into. i guarantee in a year when your 6' and 160 you will be wishing you bought the bigger bike.

At 5'10" I'd say you are too tall for any mini, KDX200, KTM 125 or 200 EXC, Husqvarna WR125 or almost any 125 MX bike. They are all fairly tall and you will have to get use to it, you're not suppose to put your feet down except when stopping anyway, but they are all lighter than an XR200.

I am a 5'7" adult and find most bikes to tall for me but......... any of the good dealers told me they could lower most models without sacrificing the suspension, Am curently riding an older IT250 which is a little tall for me but no big sweat, I rode a 99 CR250 last year that wasn't too bad either and you got a few inches on me!
