I got to thinking: there are some guys who switch bikes like, well, you know – at least it seems that way to us lesser folks.

Below is a list of DRNers I’ve had the pleasure to ride with, which readily come to mind.

Three and over rule:

(and the winner is, the most honorable)

scar tissue - XR600, Stroker’d KLX, WR250F, 300M/XC

(in second place - certainly of lesser albeit noteworthy honor, we have a seven-way tie)

the Eel - XR250R, WR125, EC300

MXBundy - YZ250F, 400SX, CR450F

KiwiBird - EC300, CR500AF - now 525 E/XC?

Ol’89r – XR350R, WR400, CRF450

Farmer John – CR250 (E), 440 E/XC, CR250?

Rmjeff – RM250, WR250F, CR450F

a454elk – RM250, RM250, WR400, (and a new quad? There goes the neighborhood)

Then there’s a third tier, a smaller crowd of two per household; nonetheless men in their own rights:

Holeshot – YZ426F, KX125

Thumbs – CR125, 200 M/XC

CPTJack – XR400, XC300

mcassle – KLX, 450 E/XC

ggoja – DRZ, YZ250F

D36-108A –CR250, CR250

LongTime - XR400, EC300 (where’d he go?)

brettr - yz250, yz250

Lastly, it’s one variation or another of old “I got the same bike, and probably have it forever”, “sit-at-the-feet-of-the-upper-echelons”, “hang-in-there-by-the-grit-of-my-teeth” or “when I outride this one (or they make a better _____), then I will consider a new _____ (fill in the blanks)” crowd:

plysWfire (my all-time fav. handle), AKA bishop_d – CR250

Old ‘n’ Slow – XR400

Dirt Bike Dave – CR(E)250

Jonala – XR250R

2strok4fun – 250 E/XC

NVR FNSH – WR400

KTMboy – 360 E/XC

Dp400 – 400 M/XC

bclapham - YZ250

Fremontguy – 450 E/XC – should be in third group as he got it new just before we started

last and perhaps least (placelast), yours truly – RMX

So for us here at the bottom (or perhaps in reality, top?), what's up, guys? Peaked? Satisfied?

Placelast - I don't swap, I just add, 3 bikes Gas Gas EC/XC300, Honda CR500AF and, yes, KTM 525EXC.

I wonder why I don't have any room in my garage - or money?

Test rides are a bad thing....at least my wife thinks so.

The worst part was I finally got my WR exactly how I wanted it. I do believe the current ride will stay around for a very long time.

Hey, I belong in both the 2 bike group and the I'll just keep riding it forever group. I've had an '88 XR600 & currently have the '90 KX500 - both were some of the longest production runs for a dirtbike. Of course, the WR will be around for a long time since it's street legal and it works so well.

Of course, I've got my eyes on a GG or KTM 300:)

Anyone notice how when you get done tinkering, you want something different? Case in point my last bike, a '00 KX250, after riding it for two seasons and slowly fixing the crap that went wrong with it, I had it better than new and setup PERFECTLY for me. My last two rides were nirvana, there wasn't one thing I wanted to change on the bike. Then I decided to get rid of the POS and get a new one.

I'm getting my current one almost to the stage I was at with my KX.. Except less crap has gone wrong with it. Just a few more little tweaks and it'll be absolutely perfect. I hope I enjoy it a little longer this time before I decide to get rid of it.

Hey Placelast, if we're riding out-of-date equipment it just means we're better riders, right? Well, ok, if I'm not keeping up it's because of the bike, it's not me! :)

Fair and admissible logic. I'll buy it.

Another thought is to hang on long enough to qualify for the evolution or even vintage class...
