U.S. House Considering Bill Detrimental to OHV Riding

Protect 24 million acres from OHV restrictions

Take Action!

Contact your Representative to Oppose H.R. 980!

The Chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Natural Resources has scheduled a hearing on May 5 to consider H.R. 980, the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act (NREPA). This legislation was introduced by Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY). It will designate 24 million acres as Wilderness and components of the National Wilderness Preservation System in Idaho , Montana , Oregon , Washington , and Wyoming . This Wilderness designation will make the land off-limits to off-highway riders.

With the Wilderness bill (Omnibus Public Land Management Act) recently signed into law, that prohibited off-highway vehicle (OHV) use on over 2 million acres, this Congress now feels emboldened to continue pressing for passage of even more Wilderness bills that would take away additional OHV trails enjoyed responsibly by your friends and family.

We need your help to stop H.R. 980 in its tracks. The fastest way to reach your Representative is to call them. You can find contact information for your elected officials by entering your zip code on AmericanMotorcyclist.com, clicking on "Rights," then "Issues and Legislation." Additionally, a prewritten e-mail is available for you to send to your Representative immediately by following the "Take Action" option and entering your information.

We must remain vigilant. If this bill were signed into law, the effect on the OHV community would be devastating for generations. Please contact your Representative right away and urge them to oppose H.R. 980.

Thanks for posting this Wolf.

IMO, this is one of the most important threads on DRN right now and it gets only 24 views and O replies. :bang: No wonder we are losing all of our riding land. I am disgusted with my dirtriding brethren. :|

It is my understanding this new bill will lock up some of the most prime riding areas in Moab. Not to mention a huge area rich in minerals and oil. THIS IS THE REAL REASON TO LOCK UP THE LAND. It has nothing to do with the critters or the plants. It's all about minerals and oil and the ability of the government to take it away from the peoples control. What a better way to get everyone in those little pieces of crap electric cars than to lock up the oil fields.

Those of you that voted for change, I hope your freakin happy. :coocoo: This is just the beginning.

You can all go back to arguing about two strokes verses four strokes now. That seems to be the subject that interests everybody. Four or five pages of responses to that thread. Of course, when all of the land has been taken away, it won't matter wether you have a two stroke or four stroke because there won't be anywhere to ride them.

I guess we really deserve what we are getting.

Thanks again Wolf for trying to wake these guys up. I don't think its workin though.

I guess I don't get it...no one seems to give a crap. Yes, many voted the first time around, but for crying out loud, that was really just the beginning...these attacks will continue to come in and if you guys think that because you signed a petition ONE freaking time, you've done your part, well then you do get what you deserve...The greenies are so much stronger and smarter than us...at least they show to fight for their cause, however wrong it may be. I'm with 89'er...I am disgusted with my dirtriding brethren. :(

Hear-hear guys!

Drives me friggin nuts as well. :bang:

Just a theory, but some of these people....and maybe this generation (I refer to it as the "ME" generation...what's in it for me....how does this effect me directly....I want to do this on my time....etc) only focuses on issues and "things" that they are "in to". They don't really care about politics and policy. They go on with their lives (two stroke vs. four stroke), living in a bubble, not really giving two-craps about doing any research or educating themselves about what's going on. Then some jack-azz snake-oil sales person, who looks good on camera and can speak eloquently with the aid of a teleprompter, comes on TV blabbering about "Hope and Change". These drones buy into it because they don't have a clue, let alone an informed idea of what a liberal or socialist political aggenda is really all about.

Things started turning the corner with Brown. I think it just made the admin re-group and find another angle though. Hopefully enough carnage will take place this year to permanently damage this idiotic movement....and we can vote the joker out in 2112.

I just hope it's someone who truely "gets it" that takes his place. But, look what we got when a bunch of moo-ing cows voted for "hope"...... :|
