Read the post, i put a link to it., dumont sand dunes in california is under attack! The Center for Biological Diversity (CBD). For those who don't recognize that name, the CBD is one of three organizations that successfully sued and closed over 49,000 acres at Glamis. Temporary closures that have been in place since 2000 and there appears to be no end in sight. These guys sue to make money and are completely unconcered with the species they are suing for. They use the Endangered Species Act as a tool to shut out public access from public lands.

This is a very real threat.

Their argument is logical, but as someone who likes to think he at least obliquely thinks like a scientist, there sure is a lot of vague language in there. Words like 'potential habitat', or 'potential historical site(s)' are obviously misleading and meaningless. Furthermore, there is no EVIDENCE in their position. You wanna say the lizard is in danger, PROVE it. Don't just talk about them diving into small holes, getting run over, trashing the vegetation, etc. Do at least a few year long epidemiologic study proving a correlation/relationship between offroad traffic and animal death. They don't even mention the 2 areas in Death Valley that had 'historical' habitation, or whether or not they were exposed to OHV's.

Let's face it. A lot of these so-called intellectuals are trying to push their weight around simply because they think OHV'ers are rednecks and don't like them disturbing 'their' paradise. The other glaring ignorance on their part is going after a small riding area for 1 species, which A) don't ALL live there and B) they should feel free to manually remove them to the 45000 acre area of Glamis they shut down.

Neph.
The CBD has recently filed suit against the BLM over it's desert plan. There is a VERY GOOD CHANCE they will be successful in shutting down the entire Mojave desert to ohv's.

If you guys are not writing letters and contacting your representatives about this you might as well sell your dirtbikes since you won't be able to use them.

It's time the laws are changed to make people that sue using false claims and information libel for these claims. As you have pointed out, this is how the CBD and other eco-nazzi orgs get their way. The information that they use does not have to be correct. They only need to make the claim that there is a danger to a species and the whole area is shut down until a study is done to prove otherwise. Once the study is done and there is no proof to substantiate their claims, they do the same thing by naming another species as being in danger or threatened.

Everybody, and I mean everybody should be outraged by this and doing something about it.

WE are the endangered species.

Well, the "potential" new head of the DOI is not against OHV usage so we may see some push back. Idaho seems to have a good track record and maybe that influence can push into Washington and California now!

I'll send a well placed email on the subject!

It's crazy, all these people have to do is threaten a lawsuit, and land gets closed... The BLM does'nt have any cash to fight lawsuits, they'll just cave in...
