Though originally announced as part of the lineup for Sunday’s (Oct. 21) Country Freedom Concert benefiting The Salvation Army, the Charlie Daniels Band did not appear. Daniels dropped out several days before the event when producers asked him not to sing an original song inspired by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, “This Ain’t No Rag, It’s a Flag.” CMT, which carried the concert live, has issued a statement: “There was a creative difference of opinion. Charlie Daniels is an icon of country music and remains a fixture on CMT.” 10/23/01
