Hi,i ride a lot of mixed terrain and i would suggest an intermediete tire choice,it will last and give good performance. It will handle the mud and the roots/rocks.

I ride in lots of mud and rocky terrain. S12's front and back. When in doubt 13 psi front and back. But I don't have a clue what I'm doing.:o

tyre choice

Howzit again,i ride sand, woods, rocks, any typed of terrain u can think of. The have dunlops on at the moment and i am running Hard terrain compound, but only because i cant afford to go through tyres so quickly(exchange rate in South Africa is crazy at the moment) therefore the hard terrain tyres basically covers all the terrains i ride. On the other hand all of my riding buddies use intermediete choice because of the variety of terrain-it works the best 4 everything and has a reasonable tread life.Brands we use r IRC, Dunlop, Michelin, Metzeller. :)

tyre choice

Another thing-Concerning tyre pressures,When u ride ask the more experienced riders about tyre pressure, soon enough you will be able to inflate your tyres by instinct according to the terrain your riding.Get a feel 4 the tyre softness by pushing with your hand-these things come with experience. Do a lot of listening and buy some magazines (dirt bike, mxracer)they do a lot of testing,u could pick up a lot of tips reading between the lines.;)

love the s-12's front and rear, but due to the soft compound the rear seems to chunk easily. michelin also has a new tire out called an enduro competition
which i have found resists chunking a good bit better.

M-12's front and rear. The Michelin Starcross is also an excellent front tire( My brother just put one on, and i tried it yesterday and i like it alot :p). I ride in the same terrain as you described, and i find S-12's(rear) just dont last. The m-12 rear wears great, and has great traction in all types of terrain. That's why all i buy is M-12's.

The s12r will wear better than the 756r, and hook up/slide more predictably. The 756r has poor sideways traction. Ktmracer, maybe you are thinking of the starcross? The enduro comp 3 tires are crap.

For a front tire, I sugest the pirelli mt44. I just took an old one off and realised it had something like 1500 miles on it. It still looked good except for the edge knobs, some of which had ripped off. It performs well enough in all conditions.
