Damn, I hate it when an expert takes something I struggle for 30 minutes on and presents in a 3 minute video, complete with pausing for show & tell.....

Alright, anyone know where to get a "bead buddy"?

Did pick up a new technique: at least 5 minutes of my struggles were in getting the valve stem in the hole. Didn't think of a tire iron from the other side to lift the tire.....

you need to click on "clicky" not "tire" that is underlined in blue. That's what I did the first time and couldn't figure it out.

I have to make a stand like that. I usually use the new and old tire as a stand, but it sure isnt as good as what he has.

Yeah, I was looking at that also. Don't think that I would want a custom tire changing stand taking up room in the trailer, but the 5 gallon bucket I already carry around came to mind. Throw a rubber pad around the rim......

You can get the bead buddy from motion pro. I also use either a 5 or 7 gal bucket (the 7 is a tad bit taller and I'm a tall guy) because I'm a little clumsy and need Knees and Feet to get the job done. He was probably talking to me when he said that if it was hard your doing it wrong. Nice tip on setting the valve stem back in the rim!

Ya know, I had a few tires that I have been putting off changing because I really didn't want to deal with the "third change" where I went out to buy a new tube.

Well, I re-watched that video. Then I attacked the tires. It went as smooth as it looked in the video.

Key things learned from the video:

- The third iron makes it much easier, especially when used in the correct order;
- A little bit of lube (WD40) goes a long way;
- I didn't have a bead buddy, but carefully used a screw driver to do what the bead buddy does. It works, and I will be buying a bead buddy;
- The best advice was "if it is difficult, then you are doing something wrong".

Thank you Kelseybrent for posting that link.

I think I got my bead tool from Rockymountain, their Tusk brand (cheap). Much easier on the rim than the vice grips I used to use.

I use an MSR Bike Crate as my tire changing stand. It triples as a bike stand, catch all container, and tire stand, and it cost about $20. It looks suspiciously like the 5 gallon water bottle crates that I see from our local water cooler deliverer, so if I didn't already have one, I'd check in to that.

I've gotten my valve stem to pop into the hole just like on the video ... like one time out of 30. Amazing how effortless everything looks.

CaptainObvious, I would try to avoid using WD-40 as the lubricant for changing tires. Petroleum based products are harmful to rubber, and an oily type product will stay slick between the tire and wheel longer which is simething that you want to avoid. Windex like in the video works good, or what I use most of the time is just a little soap with a lot of water in a squirt bottle.

LOL, My wife was cleaning the house as I was changing tires. She wouldn't let me have the Windex, and I couldn't wait the half hour. I grabbed what I had.

Practice makes perfect -- I use a bead buddy - 2 qty 17" Terry Cable Tire Irons and a K&L Tire Tamer. My tire changes are down to 30 minutes - That includes removal of wheel off the bike, changing the tire and reinstalling wheel. There is a learning curve to changing tires.

This is great. I was about to try changing a tire this weekend and not looking forward to it. Now I think it'll be ok. Romping_bronco. Can you let me know where you got the bead buddy and other tools?.
