i just bought a klx 300 with $600 of drew smith suspension work done to it. my concern is my bike is tied down on a trailer for an hour til my buddy and i get to the trails. worse yet, we make a 30 hour trip to colorado once a year with the bikes tied down the whole time. right now i am using one of those plastic spacers from the dennis kirk cat. to keep the forks from being totally compressed. is this a good idea? nessesary? any other ideas?

What you are doing is about the best way to tie one (a shoe may be even better). That spacer will keep any bad things from happening. You may want to bleed off your air space before you ride, it needs to be done occasionally and that makes a good time to do it.
