1) CALL TO ACTION
We have learned from reliable sources that the Sierra Club (SC) and the
Environmental Defense Center (EDC) are planning to file a lawsuit early next
week asking for IMMEDIATE CLOSURE of the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular
Recreation Area (ODSVRA).
If the SC/EDC are successful in their actions, and find a sympathetic Judge
who is swayed by their misinformation, the beach will be closed for the
upcoming Thanksgiving weekend!
This tactic was used Memorial Day weekend and it failed. Governor Gray Davis
intervened and said there will be NO closures prior to a holiday. Obviously,
the SC/EDC feel they have enough evidence to try this tactic again.
They hope to file the law suit at the last minute to back State Parks into a
corner and make them compromise. THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO COMPROMISE!
We have compromised ourselves into near extinction, we must fight back!

2) THANKSGIVING WEEKEND
The Thanksgiving weekend is SOLD OUT, and has been for over a month. So make
sure you have your tickets! Fines are $230 for illegal overnight camping.
We are planning 2 meetings during this weekend.
- Friday 11/23, NOON at the Oceano Fire House on Hwy 1 (Directions on our
website)
- Saturday 11/24, 10:00am on the beach near pole 6, look for our banners
It is IMPERATIVE that we work hard to obey the laws! The enviros will have
cameras out taking movies and pictures of "incidents'.
If you see people playing in the river…stop and inform them!
If you see people doing things that will hurt our cause…stop and inform
them!

State Parks will be out in force. They are NOT our enemy! State Parks is
FIGHTING hard to keep the ODSVRA open and they are adding more Rangers and
will be VERY TOUGH to try and ensure no "incidents" occur that could
jeopardize the beach.
State Parks knows who we are and they SUPPORT US!

Friends of Oceano Dunes is LEADING the fight to keep the ODSVRA open. We
have accomplished a tremendous amount in 6 months, but we are about to lose!
FOLKS - I HATE TO BEG, BUT IF YOU WANT TO KEEP THE OCEANO DUNES OPEN, WE
NEED TO FUND THE FIGHT!!!
- We have retained an attorney who will assist in fighting any potential
closures, but he requires money in order for us to be successful.
- We have new information that might be sufficient to possibly de-list the
Western Snowy Plover from the Endangered Species Act. To make this happen,
we need to pay lawyers and file legal documentation. IT TAKES MONEY!
WE ARE A 100% VOLUNTEER EFFORT, NO SALARIES ARE PAID!
