Yes, if you are a rugby fan, and live in the Houston area, the USA Eagles take on the South African Springboks in their 2nd international clash ever. I will be heading off from Amarillo tonight, can't wait to see this clash.

Ticket prices are $20, kids under 12 free.

Any other DRN'rs heading on that way ?

Got to see this Eagle get defeathered :p

Rugby?? What is this strange game of which you speak? I thought it was a pretend sport that a bunch of burly guys invented so they'd have an excuse to tap many kegs and run around bars nekkid!

:) xrpred, 15 burly guys playing rugby nonstop for 80 minutes, all players play offense as well as defense, substitute only for injury. This is a real mans game - oh yeah, no helmets, pads etc, just short pants, and a long sleeve rugby jersey - very fast, very tough, very extreme - maybe something the XFL should have looked at ! :think

Also no dancing around like a pea**** after a tackle, the game goes on !

I can bet the USA players are taking this game more seriously than any NFL game player would, this is for pride and glory, for the red, white and blue - an international clash against one of the titans of world rugby.

Vrystaaaaaat, I am getting excited already ..............

Gotta drink lots of beer and braaivleis (BBQ) afterwards ;)

(can't I say peacok !?) :scream:

Rugby sounds a lot like a game we used to play as kids.. Smear the queer! I would have used another name but that's what it was called when I was a kid. I'd like to see one of these games.. sounds pretty cool.

I learned and played the game when I was much younger/slimmer/faster/healed quicker/yada yada yada

Great game, indeed. Even more fun when played as Sevens.

smear the queer !

Jeff, sounds like a game you probably enjoyed .. eh :) nudge nudge wink wink :)

As to the game, the Eagles started well, drew first blood and went 3-0 up with a penalty, South Africa quickly responded with a try and the score was 3-5. Two quick penalties and the USA were 9-5 ahead, SA the replied with another try and went 10-9 ahead, by half time SA were leading 22-15, all of USA points had come by 4 penalty conversions and a drop goal. The USA was still in with a chance.

Final score 43-20, the only points for the USA in the second half was a late well deserved try.

The USA showed a lot of heart, and the game was really enjoyed by the 20,000 or so spectators.

It must have been strange for a USA supporter to be outnumbered by about 5:1 - there was a lot of cheering, lusty booing, and some ragging on the French ref, but all in all a great day of rugby. Both teams received a great cheer of applause from the appreciative crowd.

I can bet the Americans who attended, went away with a great feeling for international sport. Hope to get more of this in the future !

BTW, to top off a great days entertainment, we were treated to not only one, but two streakers, much fun was had by all.
