i have a 2000 yz125 and was wondering if anyone has had varner motorsports mods to their bike. For all the mods it would cost around $1000. here is what they say on fmf's website FMF Engine Modifications:
The stock engine is a great performer so special attention by Terry Varner to focus on improving the overall power output. The transfer ports are modified and the cylinder head is machined to alter the compression boosting the already strong power delivery, and pumping up the peak horsepower to make the YZ an excellent all around performer. The carburetor is highly recommended to be bored for outdoor use on 2000 model, extending the YZ lethal power to extend further into the RPM range, and increasing it over rev ability. Motor modifications are complimented with the use of the AOF Ignition to maximize the gains associated with port timing alterations and increased compression.

Well, I am probably biased as I am an Varner support rider, but I can tell you this. Varner motorsports did a fantastic job on my 02 CR125. It was a lame @$$ motor stock, but they fixed it big time. All I had done was cyl/head/pv mod, and the bike hauls @$$. If you need the whole package, then go for it, but just the basic set up is enough, as the 00 YZ125 is king. I am looking to try to get a big-bore kit,(legal in the Vet) as well for my ride. When it is done, she should pump out about 38 hp. I figure I picked up 3hp from cylinder/hd/pv/pipe & silcr/and fuel. If I get the 133cc, mixed w/ MR2, and a 38mm carb, that should be good for another 2hp. Anyway, good luck!

I usually ride at Central Village, but I broke my ankle there 2 weeks ago, and have to wait for another 4 weeks before I can ride again. What about you, where do you ride?

well when i was open i usually rode at thomastan dam but now it is closed and my area were i go trail riding, people are getting very strict so i reall cant ride there anymore, were else can we ride?

I would not cut Eric Gorr out of the equation. He has ahd great reviews from people on this board and it will not cost you 1000 dollars to get a nice engine from him.
I have other opinions and theories about the big engine modifiers out there, so if you want them, email me. I will not post them here though as I might offend someone.

Well, I'll say that FMF did a crappy job on my engine. I have never been satisfied with the power delivery of the porting work. You'll get an off-the-shelf port job that may or may not be the type of power you are looking for. Their only goal with their engine mods seems to be maximum power output, with no thought to power delivery.

If this offends someone, too bad, it's just an opinion of a dissatsified customer, and I'm an equal opportunity offender.:mad:

Well, you said it spanky. They get so much business that they have to give you a cookie cutter port job IMO. I also feel that the labor is performed by employees of the company not the namesake. Although I feel that these people may have enough knowledge to use the tools, for 1000 of your hard earned dollars, you should get something done by the experts!

That is just my personal opinion though about the "super" companies(Pro Circuit, fmf, tmr). I think they are great, but the advertise SO much that they get tons of business and they just cant handle all the business without cutting the quality.

I bought my bike from a local pro fully modified by TMR. It rips, but the reciepts the guy gave me were almost 3000 dollars!!!
I believe that an Eric Gorr motor with a bit of jetting and some other bolt ons could have been just as fast and alot cheaper.
If I had bought a stock bike, I would definetly send the cylinder to eric when it came time for my first top end.

Go with shomever you want, but I am just giving you my gut feeling on this one. I have never heard one bad review about Eric Gorr, but I have heard bad things about PC and FMF. Jsut spend your money where you want, its your money isnt it?;)

yeah u are right i was leaning more to gorrs engine anyways just because of all the good reviews. $3000 is a lot of money but it is probably a great engine though

marcv125, everyone in this forum is bias to eric gorr . i've run his stuff , its good and he's a real nice guy .theres other stuff out there to, I've mxed for many many years on alot diferent tuners built bikes .My favorite motors have been tom morgans TMR just another opinion. good luck.

cpmx76 i figure that tmr engines are good but kawie said that he has his engine done by them and the bill came out to 3 grand ..for that money i might as well go with eric gorr or even pc right?

OK, a couple of things. First as far as off the shelf port jobs are concerned, this may be the case w/ some, but not for me. I am a support rider, therefore, I specify what I have done, exactly the way I want it. Terry himself did my engine. I agree that if you just send it there, (PC/FMF, etc) you never know who is doing the work, or whatever. I talked w/ them, and work w/ them (feedback) to develop it. I honestly have never heard a lick of bad product/port job come from TMR, or E Gorr. However, truth be told, I have heard horror stories from others. Go w/ what you are comfy w/, heck it is your buck. From the beginning of this thread a question was asked, " Have any of you had any work done by Varner MSP?" The answer is yes, and I am very happy w/ what I got. Don't leave out guys like Reynard, Gilbert, etc, from the feedback I hear about them, they do a good job too. Good luck!!!

Exactly, its your money, use it were you want to. I am jsut giving my opinion on the matter.
cpmx76-I did not get the work done to my bike, it came that way. Everything in tom morgans catalog for the KX 125 was done to my bike. You name it. Carb, ignition, porting, head mods, case work, crank work, tranny mods, clutch mods, reed, pipe, silencer, Etc. It was crazy.

Someone spoke of REYNARD MODS?

I don't mean to bag on anyone, but Reynard does motor and suspension, well a friend had a 99 YZ 125 he had Robert do (Reynard). He dropped it off at one of the OKlahoma State Races. He got it back, the suspension job was way to stiff, hard to work it out. The motor, well my buddy wanted it for outdoors with a little more bottom. It had absolutley no top. He would rather ride his stock bike. On top of all that, while riding one of the linkage bolts came out, he forgot to tighten. That's my 2 cents...
