I am looking at a few bikes on the web and they all say "No Title, Bill of Sale Only". this is fine on a dirt bike, I don't need a title but I would like to get the VINs checked out before I bought something just to make sure it's not stolen. how do I get the VIN checked out?

Call your local Police Department with the VIN of the bike you are going to buy. Of course if it was stolen in another state it probably won't show up.

i tried this when buying a bike without a title, my local police said they couldnt do it... :coocoo: maybe you'll have better luck with yours.

It will show up nationwide if it's reported stolen to a local police agency. The PD may not check it for you if it's not somewhere nearby.

I thought I saw a web site that can check the vin for theft?

I do, but I won't be back to work till Monday. If the VIN gets posted, I can check it but I need to make sure it's not just a fishing expedition.
