WENATCHEE, WA * June 23, 2004 -- The Forest Service is seeking people from the community or special interest groups, and locally elected officials as nominees for the Wenatchee/Okanogan Resource Advisory Committee (RAC).
Application forms are due in the Okanogan and Wenatchee National Forests headquarters office by Wednesday, July 7th.

The Wenatchee/Okanogan RAC consists of 15 members, and three alternates, representing a wide range of interests. The committee¹s duties include reviewing and recommending proposed land management projects, under Title II of Public Law 106-393, on or adjacent to the Okanogan and Wenatchee
National Forests. Projects are located in Okanogan, Chelan, and Kittitas Counties. Yakima County is also within the forest boundaries of the RAC; however, funding has not been available for Title II projects there.

The three-year committee member term begins December 4, 2004. Members serve without compensation, but may be reimbursed for travel expenses. Applicants must be Washington residents, preferably living in one of the four counties served by the RAC. Formal meetings are held up to three times annually, and occasional field trips may be planned.

Each RAC consists of 15 members, split equally between the following three categories, with an alternate member in each category. The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture will make the appointments to the RAC based on the applications she receives, striving to appoint members who have demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively with others of different
viewpoints.

Category One:
· Organized labor
· Developed outdoor recreation, off-highway vehicle, commercial recreation
· Energy and mineral development
· Commercial timber industry
· Federal grazing permit holders or land use permit holders within theRAC area

Category Two:
· Nationally recognized environmental organizations
· Regionally or locally recognized environmental organizations
· Dispersed recreation
· Archaeological and historical interests
· Nationally or regionally recognized wild horse or burro groups

Category Three:
· State-elected office holders
· County or local elected officials
· American Indian tribal representatives from tribes within or adjacent to RAC areas
· School officials or teachers
· Citizens representing the affected public at large

Each year, the Wenatchee/Okanogan RAC decides which projects to recommend for funding with the nearly $700,000 in Title II dollars available annually.

Citizens interested in applying for RAC membership are encouraged to retrieve an application on-line at
