These were common words, when I worked on farms in Australia: "Get me the shifter! A shifter! Ya' bloody yank, you don't know what a shifter is? It's in the bonnet! The bonnet! You don't know what a bonnet is? You yanks aren't too smart...." ;)

PeeStink uses one of those when he has to adjust his bicycle seat. Wouldn't want to torque a single bolt in this world and be out of spec. ;)

Pronounced "Sheef Tahh".

BTW, what business does an MD have with an adjustable wrench? On second thoughts, don't answer that.

1) Crescent wrench (Crescent is a brand name - so I just call it an "adjustable cordless uni-standard wrench" )
2) wrench - depends on type: box end (open), closed, or combo (one end closed, other box ended)
3) hex keys or allen wrench
4) channel lock pliers

...er, oh yeah. :o
Guess I ain't so smart a yank. :ugg:

As far as the crescent wrench goes Humai, I grew up on a farm. We called it something that has NOT been mentioned yet, and carries deeply ignorant prejudicial tone.

Another one: WD40/CR-556: "Throw me the squaw pee"

The term dike comes from DIagonal Cutter...

Which is actually DIC when you break it down.

However, I don't think that any self-respecting male mechanic would be caught dead asking someone to hand him a DIC, so DIKE it is.

And what fun is asking for one DIKE when you can ask for a pair?

1. Cresnt or adjustable wrench
2. End wrench (open or boxed or combo) (good to throw and fairly easy to find!)
3. Allen or hex ( usually strip and not good to throw to hard to find)
4. Channel locks (works good as a hammer or somthing to throw)
5.Dikes or side cutters ( I like dikes especially in pairs)
6. pipe wrench or stillsen (spelling?)
I work with all these tools and a lot more ever day, and have so much fun.

1. Cresent or adjustable wrench - yes or adjustable spanner ( King Dick is a great brand )
2. End wrench (open or boxed or combo) - Again Spanner open, closed or combo.

3. Allen keys or hex head ( always missing 4mm and 5mm no matter how many sets I buy ).
4. Channel locks or plumbers spanner
5. Dikes or side cutters ( I like dikes especially in pairs - agreed)
6. pipe wrench ( spanner ) or stilsen ( manufactures name ) prefer stilsen as a name.
