This would be my order of operations on any bike I just get new or used
inspect braking system if used bike make sure nothing is worn if new make sure everything was assembled up to snuff
tires and wheels; air pressure, spokes loose, axles tight bearings in good shape, chain adjustment.
chassis: suspension pivots cleaned ,greased ,all bolts, tight steering stem same thing. if used frame for cracks ,bent, mangled whatever.
suspension; leaks, bolts tight, bouncing test in garage making sure smooth.
engine: air cleaner ok, all fluids fresh and topped off proper, throttle operation smoooth not binding and distinctive thunk in carb when letting go,
clutch lever feel and adjustment.
gas er up fire it up checking for leaks , noise, nice little putt putt around for a bit getting used to the bike all the time feeling listening smelling for anything that might be amiss. doing a few different brake checks and what nots
let bike cool down visual check fluids, leaks , whatever I could see, smell or hear
start her up and progressively get harder on bike getting used to it and checking handling and peculararities<sp?> doing this a few times letting the bike cool down in between each 15 20 minute little session
go home and double check everything in the garage paying particular attention to any oddities and making a mental note for next time out to keep an eye on it till it either settles in and not a problem or a part of my normal before ride check.
