Maybe in CA it is a road to go WFO but here in WI, the roads are anything but a place to go WFO. Most of the fire roads around here are access roads into the thick woods to allow firefighting access as was mentioned however the roads here in WI are full of ruts, rocks, logs and usually tall grass and weeds. I would drive on these roads very cautiously because you never know what lurks down low. These roads are mostly used by 4 x 4 trucks around here and I have seen many deep ruts etc from when they decided to drive them in very wet conditions. Be careful.
