What's a good shift lever?

Is there a better alternative for the stock shift lever. I have had to replace mine on my 98 KDX 220R once, and my riding partner just broke his on his 97. Both levers cracked thru on the oppisite side of the bolt. Who makes a lever that will take more abuse.:think

I think moose or msr makes an aftermarket folding lever that's pretty tough. About $26 bucks. I need one on my sons PW80. He bent it 90 degrees twice last weekend and you can only bend them back so many times before they go 'ping' :eek:

Having tried both, I can say I've had much better luck with the IMS lever than with the Moose.

A brake snake can help here, I have them on the gear lever as well to stop trees getting wedged in-between & levering the lever out or the ground grabbing it when you fall off. Sadly there’s not much forward high enough to tie to on the KDX.

You can buy brake snakes from shops or just use an old throttle cable inner & some crimps from a fishing shop.

David, are the two loops off the frame too far forward ? My sons problem is simply ground clearence or lack thereof on the PW.

The kdx shifters are just junk! I bent mine on the first ride. They don't look like they would bend as easy as they do.

Ya just have to have a look, the further forward the less the snake is going to offer protection as it will be on too little angle.
