I thought the thread about bike speed got pretty interesting with theories and claims of what a bike is or is not capable off. So I decided to start a thread where you could tell your top speed, and please include how you measured it and what bike/mods.

2003 KDX220
Stock, 13/47 gearing
Garmin GPS - 71.9 mph

Same bike
Fredette porting, head mod, bored carb
Boyseen reeds
FMF rev pipe & Turbine Core II silencer
13/49 gearing
Garmin GPS - 81.3 mph

Both runs were on paved roads (dual sported bike). Stock run was up a very slightly uphill section, I'm sure it could do a solid 72 mph on flat :nener:. With the mods and 13/49 gearing it ran out of revs very quickly in 6th, I could have used a few more gears in the transmission.

Now I run 12/49 and probably max out at 75mph or there-abouts, so that's where my vote lies in the poll.

Now I know why it was deleted. It's a poll that is pointless.
top speed really doesn't matter in the woods or really on the track.
If I were on the salt flats with proper gearing I could probably come close to 200. .. maybe better. Desert riding aside, how does this really become useful information for anyone in real riding conditions?

also, here's the answer to your next question:http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/showthread.php?t=143759&highlight=fast

Alright Adam you get your chance I'm going to reopen this one.

Adam wrote me an email explaining the reasoning behind his wanting thread.

I'm pretty sure where it will head, but by all means prove me wrong.

I'll still nuke any post that is of the "my bike is wicked fast I go like a bajillion" ilk.

I can barely get out of 3rd gear... And only half throttle at that.

I have no idea how fast I am going, and really don't give a crap. The smile on my face is just as good as the one on anyone elses.

Top speed is for asphalt.

02' CR250, Bunch of mods, not bored out or anything. Wiseco top end.

13 front/48 rear.

Got up in the 90's a couple years ago, can't remember the exact speed on a paved road.

My completely stock 1999 XR200R topped out at just over 60MPH. I haven't gone for a top speed run on the Gasser yet, but I know it outruns my dad's XL250 that tops out around 70-75MPH.

82' xt 250 use to do 85mph new but lucky to break 50 now. Fastest the yz450 has seen was 80mph running next to a quad with an oldometer.

41mph on an 87 TW200. Sprockets are not stock and I'm not sure if the speedometer is driven off the transmission or front wheel, so I voted 100+.

I have a Sportster that was clocked in competition at 180 MPH. My Harley pals call it a dirtbike. Guess it's all a matter of your point of view!

Don't know how fast my KX520 would go. Sure would like to have a chance to time it. It's potentially a triple digit ride. But then, I'm a potential axe murderer.

I had my 1996 Suzuki RMX250 up to almost 95 MPH one time in Tennessee.

But it was on my trailer as I was going down the back side of Mount Eagle just South of Nashville. I think it could have done a hunnert if I wanted it too.

Actually the fastest dirt bike I was on (and know how fast it went) was an 87 Husky 430AE with an ICO clock. At the end of the Little Burr enduro that year I checked max MPH, and it showed 83 MPH.

2001 Yz 250 13/49 gearing hit 83 mph with modded motor on fireroad.

Measured with GPS.

The could go higher but ran out of rpm. Need more gear.

Two years ago during the PMMC 24 hour race the teams where ran through what is called the "100 mile an hour pasture" we are in Alabama. The top team did around 90 mph on a Husky or a Husaberg if I remember right.

The stock geared RM250 we were riding couldnt get passed 78mph. I sat at the "radar station" for two of our laps and watched several bikes get into the high 70s/low 80s, very few in the top 80s.

The following year we set the RM 250 up a little wider, the radar gun that we tested with said 96 mph. I can tell you I made that run and 96 with dirt bike wheels and tires, is a busy place. Fortunately the gearing actually makes that bike work better and we are leaving it that way, If the PMMC group decide to put the "pasture" back in the race, we have something for it. ;)

Thanks for the second chance. I thought it would be interesting to see if some people have honest numbers on what they have pulled on a bike. I know it's not a technical post or really even doing any good, but I figured the entertainment value would be fun. If it gets out of hand or you get sick of babysitting it, go ahead and re-lock it.
