which spring/shock for '01 CR250?, CR? CRF? RMZ? 230# rider

I'd like to know if a CRF450 shock (has 5.5Kg spring) will work on my '01 CR250. I'm a I'm 6'2" 230# play rider, mostly MX style riding, I don't care about plushness or trail riding, I just like to go fast and jump. 5.5 is spring that Race-Tech website recommends, sound OK?

My shock measures 14 1/8" (485mm). Please confirm or correct data from previous posts:

• '02 thru '04 crf 450 shock is about 3/4" (19mm) shorter than '01 CR250 shock
• '02 thru '04 crf450 R or X shock is 5mm shorter than the '05+ shocks, has 2mm less travel
• '02+ CR250 shock a few mm longer than '01 CR250
• the 05+ CRF have good valving, true for CR also?

So, the 05+ CRF shock would be 14mm shorter than my stock shock. I'm guessing that's 40-some mm less ride height and tire could hit fender. Are X and R shocks same length? Seems like cheap upgrade would be a newer CR250 shock with a CRF 5.5 spring. Any other better alternatives? What is length of RMZ450 shock (also a Showa 50mm with 5.5 spring)? Would it fit?

Is there a website that gives lengths of OEM shocks? already tried Ohlins, Race-Tech, and Fox.
