Just wondering who is planning to ride at the ISDE Qualifiers? Did you sign up as a Letter of Intent or just enter into the enduro? We needed at least 3 women at both events which we had until I (Nicole) broke her collarbone at a National Hare and Hound in utah. Now I can't really ride. Will there be any of you there? If so good luck and take lots of water and some Monkey Butt cream for day 2.

That's terrible! I'm so sorry. I was hoping to meet you at Idaho City. I'll be there, helping Team Washington (specifically Steve) out at checkpoints. I'm not up to riding this year. Maybe next year just to ride and maybe LOI the year after. My riding skills weren't great to begin with but they're worse with the new bike. I will definitely be there though, both to cheer Steve on and to cover the event for my magazine. He didn't send in his letter but plans to next year--he wants to wait til he gets his shoulder fixed. Anyway, I'll be there, and I hope to see some other DRN folk--especially gals--there. Can you tell me the details of the women's team? Do they have their own team or just going with the guys?

Firecracker,

Glad to know you will be there. I MIGHT come if I can. It has been 1 week and I am doing great. I have very little pain. If the doctor says I can then I will be there. If not can you please do me a favor and help Suzy Moody. She is flying out and someone is taking her bike but she could really use some help at the gas stops. It makes life so much easier if someone else puts gas in the bike because you are whooped anyway. I know she would appreciate it. If you can let me konw and I will e-mail her and then the two of you can hook up.

Thanks,
Nicole

I'd be glad to! I'll be at as many of the checks as I can for Steve and the WA riders anyway and I'll be taking pictures of the event for the magazine. E-mail me (the address in my signature, not the e-mail button) her race number and other info, and maybe a good picture of her so I know what she looks like. Where is she staying? She can camp by us if she's camping. What minute is she on?

Nicole, how bad a break is it? What happened? Are there more qualifiers still to be ridden? Does that mean you're definitely not going to the ISDE? Are there more than Suzy riding that you know of?
Sorry for all the questions, but I was/am hoping to hear about a team going, especially if the two of you were on it (Suzy & yourself).

Hope you heal soon, and really sorry to hear about the break. I hope enough women do enter to make it worthwhile.
Firecracker, are you going to put any of the photos online?

Hey All,

This is Suzy Moody. Firecracker, I would love to take you up on your offer for help in Idaho. I am flying in Friday morning. I will be in a White Volkswagon camper with a pop-up. I have long brown curly hair about 130lbs. Riding a KTM200. I have no support crew and your help would be great. I am rider number 314.

Concerning the team. As of right now, we had myself, Nicole and Amanda Mastin signed up for LOI. There may be others and I do not know about them. But, if this to be the case. The three of us should be able to go. Especially if Nicole can ride some in Idaho (maybe). I would definately like to get some good PR out of this group. I have talked up the ISDE during the last few months and have had good inital reaction, but not the particpation I had hoped. I spoke to some of the really fast girls like Heidi Landon GNCC and Nicole spoke to Kelly Yancy and they both are interested but frankly did not know much about the Qualifiers or the ISDE itself to put it into their busy schedule.

This is THE premier off-road riding opportunity ever on an International basis. Every year, more and more women ride from other countries and I would like to take the opportunity this year to highten everyone's awareness of the event and especially the women riders. So in the next few years we can get the participation and competion at the qualifiers to a level that the women are recognized and we can conveince the FIM to recognize a women's class on an International level.

Wish us luck.

Michelle,

Since I live in Vail and have the World Renound Steadman Hawkins Clinic right here I decided to see one of their specialist because after only 1 week I have very little pain and a lot of range of motion. Only when I cross my arms together ( like if they put me in a straight jacket) do I really have any pain. They looked at my first X-ray and were really stumped by how it looked. It looks like it is broke in 2 and then overlapping but then there is about a 1/2" piece that is also broke off. The problem is then can't figure out why I have no pain and lots of range of motion. So they think that when I broke it when I was 6 it never healed and the 2 bones were never connected. (So that was my problem all along) They think I may have just broke the end of one of the ends off. They said they have never seen this before. I was not wearing my figure 8 but he thinks I should. My husband and I are going riding tomorrow night and if it feels good I MIGHT just consider Idaho. I am just not sure if it is worth re-injuring. I plan to ride in a race for sure on June 24th. With any luck the AMA will let Suzy, Amanda, and Me ride the ISDE because I know I will be ready by August for sure.

I dont think I can make it

I have two weddings to go to and what luck, both fall on major motorcycle events in my area! I'm torn - I'd almost rather go to the ISDE and the Wild West MX Nat.'s but I'm afraid I'd hurt some feelings. If I get back into town early enough and if there is a chance I can make the ISDE on sunday, I'll be sure to let you guys know just in case Suzy or Firecracker need some help.

Since we will probably get back later on Sunday, we might just head up to the lake which is just 20 mins from Idaho City(sorry FC22, I told you 10). It'd be a great place to cool down, wash up and relax. I'll keep you posted as I find out what we will be doing and let you all know where we'll be in case any of you want to hook up. I can also let you know a little about the area if any of you have questions.

Smoody--We'll be in a white with red strips older Dodge motorhome with a white trailer behind. Steve is on a RM125 number 201. We're coming in late Thursday night so we'll already be there when you get there. I'll look for you! I'll e-mail you my cell # so we can find each other. What minute are you on?

SL99, I think I'm taking Mon. and Tues. off so we can relax after the race. Steve will probably be so beat that he won't want to ride for fun afterwards so the lake sounds great. Did you say you weren't working on Mon.? Which lake was it again? Steve's been there before so I think he knows the area a little.

Lucky Peak, the lake you drive along going up to Idaho City is where we might end up unless Arrowrock, which feeds directly into Lucky 6 miles off the Highway bridge, still has enough water in it. We'll, try to snag the 1st beach as you come into Spring Shores Marina on Lucky (youll see it off the highway) or the 1st beach at Arrowrock. As far as working, I can usually do what ever, whenever.

Wouldn't you know it, we would be able to make it down to watch & help out but Karl went & got a job!!! I hate that, now he has to work Saturday's again.

Possibly, we could make it down for Sunday & Monday. Is there riding convenient to the lake? What is the riding like, woods, desert? Are Jetski's allowed on the lake?

I would really like to make it down to see what's going on. No way I'm ready for competing I know that! Ohhhh, decisions, decisions.....

Qualifier Update:

Well, two days down, two to go. Amanda Mastin and I started the Ohio Qualifiers. Mandy and her Dad made impound exciting buy sliding into the parking area with about 20 min. to impound. They drew quite a crowd while unloading the bikes, running in for numbers, working on the bikes and her Dad even changed his rear tire. They made it in by a hair. It was great to watch. Well, what can I say. Early in the week my brother called to tell me the weather channel has a "big green swirling blob" sitting right on top of Ohio. Sure enough, it had been raining there for two weeks straight and they even had lots of flooding. Some of the course was under water and rerouted at the last minute. To say it was a muddy mess is an understatement. I have ridden a lot of mud, the Cherokee National and the LA National, but I have never seen slicker, slimmier mud in my life.
In summary. Mandy had a difficult day Saturday and called it quits about 1/2 way out. I finished, with no lost route points and decent special tests, although nothing to write home about. It rained hard Saturday night and Sunday morning was even worse than Saturday. The Grass Track was a disaster and they luckily skipped it at the end of the day. No one complained. Mandy and I finished Sunday. Which as a lot tougher than Saturday. A lot more trail. Each day was 100 plus miles.

I was in the shower after day two taking stock of my bod and thought, yeh, I can do 4 more. So, yeh, we are off to the Six Days with confidence. I'll give you all an update after Idaho.

Firecracker, I will email you. I know I will need help.

About the Lake

Hey bbbom, I dont think there are any trails that go to the lake but you bet jetskis are allowed on it! Thats just what we'll be doing. Was there this weekend motoing around buoys and I am sooooo sore! The lake is perfect right now too with tons of beach to camp on and rave your bike around on - untill you piss all the beach goers off! I'm sure you would love the Idaho City trails - miles and miles of technically challenging trails with tons of elevation to climb and beautiful scenery.

I'm positive we'll end up at Arrowrock (6 miles directlly above Lucky Peak) either at the first beach or between it and the boat dock. We'll get there later in the day and we'll be the ones with a newer silver Ford F250 extended cab and on the Yamaha blue Superjet standups. We might have the bouys out but that depends on how much the ranger is around since you have to have an event permit to have them out.:(

Way to go Smoody

I'm glad you survived and feel capable of another 4 days of torture.
I hope it all goes well for you. When is Idaho? Definitely keep us updated. Wish Mandy luck from me too. Please let us know if we can help in any way.

Nicole, I hope you heal soon, I'll be real disappointed if you end up not going (not to mention how you'd feel) due to all the planning you've put into it this far (and training), but if the worst comes to the worst (I'm hoping for the best) at least it'll be that much easier next year.

Change of Plan

We actually might not make it up to the lake on Sunday but we will Monday. Just be easier on us after a night full of partying  and 3 hrs of traveling back home. I really hope to meet those of you going up! I'll keep in touch with firecracker.

I'm still wrangling with my boss about Tuesday. If I have to be back to work on Tues, no lake on Mon since we'll be driving back. But I sincerely hope to be able to relax after what will doubtless be a long, eventful weekend!

Smoody, Girlrider, we'll be rolling in late Thursday night or early Friday morning. White/red motorhome, white trailer, RM # 201 We'll be in touch!
