Why 3 SX races in Anaheim???

I would love to see a SX race in person but the closest one to me is in Atlanta, and a 6hr drive one-way isn't very appealing.

Why are there 3 SX races in Anaheim??? And why are 5 of the 16 SX races held in CA? I understand that CA is a hotbed for MX/SX, but if we want to spread the sport beyond the West Coast, why doesn't the AMA follow NASCAR's lead and distribute the races to more parts of the country (hint: try Charlotte)? NASCAR wisely limited its races in the Southeast and instead passed them to new markets, thereby increasing NASCAR's national appeal.

Considering the CBS television deal for SX, this would seem to be a good time to try this and increase SX appeal even more.

Arenacross is great, but I would love to see the big boys mix it up in a SX! :aj:

...I agree with the locations for SX/MX. I live in Ohio where there's tons of Harescrambles and GNCC, it would be great to even things out and have at least ONE MX/SX race in Ohio.

Pretty interesting statements

1. Because they sell out every race (so there is a market)
2. Most of the big manuf of bikes and parts are within 50 miles of the race
3. The Neckcar statement is pretty funny, I don't recall them spending much time in Socal (maybe a race in Fontana?) compared to the time they spend in the south. Actually I don't mind keep that stuff as far away from me as possible.

I do agree they need to reach new audiences, but at this point they have to do what the market dictates.

I have to echo some of the same comments as everyone else, Anaheim does indeed sell out every round, Most of the riders live in Southern Cal, the center of the industry is in Southern Cal and they race in major football/baseball stadiums which greatly limits the number of venues that can host such an event. Not that there arent a lot of stadiums throughout the country, but the stadiums in the Northeast especially, are open to the elements. You cant have a Supercross race in mid february at Gillete Stadium in MA, Giants Stadium in NY, Pittsburg or Philly. I understand you are in NC but I believe even the temperatures there are a far cry from what they are in SoCal in JAN-FEB. If there were some appropriate sized dome stadiums in the NE I dont doubt that they would get a round.

That being said, I am originally from CT and am only in CA for work requirements so I know and feel your pain. On the other hand, the East Coast gets way more Motocross events than the west, and there is nothing like getting right up next to the track and getting sprayed with roost from the best in the sport!

It's because there's literally not enough physical space for an SX track in the SE due to the shoulder-shoulder stacking of left turn only ovals (yawn......). Now....the solution would...say...be to move NASCAB off the coast of Florida into the devil's triangle. Just tell those 8th grade educated toothless 'average' drivers that their cars float, and more importantly, have props/amphibious capability and there's a race to the bottom of the ocean. Firstly, however, tell the standard @#$%@#$^ fan that there's a free can of Copenhagen, a 12 pack of Bud and a scratch Lotto ticket at the center of the racetrack, and you've gotten rid of 'em for a long time. "Jethro went to that race yesterday, you know where he is?" "I dunno, my sister and wife, but I'll look for him out there today....."

I know Anaheim sells out all three rounds, so why not make ALL of the rounds in Anaheim if they just want to sell out an arena? (Seems like SX sells out in every arena, but maybe my memory is failing here.)

I know the heart of the sport is in SoCal, but having three races in one place isn't helping to spread the word about the sport OUTSIDE SoCal.

I agree with another poster...the Southeast is pretty much ignored as far as SX/MX goes. Atlanta and Daytona get a SX, but that is it for this part of the country. Yeah, I can drive to MD to watch the Budds Creek national, but that isn't exactly a 1-2 hour proposition.

I still don't understand the triple race treatment for Anaheim, sorry.

And I don't like NASCAR either...

Don't forget Orlando. It is the outdoor series that we are not worthy of witnessing. Despite the fact that there are at least 3 top riders that live in Florida.
