I noticed that the 2004 and 2008 KX 250F weigh rougly 200 lbs. However the 2010 weighs around 230 lbs. 2010 does not have Fuel injection. What is adding the 30 lbs?
It's a spec that is used for advertising purposes. When you put gas and oil in them (like you do when you actually ride them), and weigh them, they tend to gain some weight. :whoa:
Looks like 'dry' weight was 204 according to the links.
Besides no gas and oil for the motor, the dry weight probably also means no fluid in the forks or shock, no grease on any of the bearings and not even any oil on the air filter, lol.
You want to save a bunch of weight? Put on some conventional 35mm forks from a 1970's bike. Instant 20 or 30 lbs of weight savings!
There has been a switch to weighing bikes with a full tank of gas recently (2010 and on?) vs weighing with an empty gas tank but with all other fluids.. I don't see the reason for the switch, because you can add gas as needed. Why penalize a manufacturer because they have a bigger gas tank than the competition?
Since they're weighing the bikes with gas now, I suppose manufactuers will start delivering them with 1 gallon "peanut" tanks so that they can win the weight wars.
I say weigh 'em will all fluids except gas.
BTW - the KX250F weighed 200 lbs or less when it was weighed on the moon. Don't let published figures fool you .....they can publish anything they want.
Fuel injection has added weight to most dirt bikes (an exception being the Honda CRF 450).
