August 10 & 11, Heather Wilson and Dave Wood will conduct an Off-Road riding class and trailride somewhere in the Northern California Sierras? We have a very special private facility that offers some of the finest trails one can find in California.

Unlike previous classes you have read about, this class will be geared to a much wider range in skill levels. My previous classes have been geared to hardcore trail riders and "A" & "B" Enduro riders. As many Woman riders have requested, the August 10 & 11 class will have loops for both experienced riders and beginners. We do expect that you have ridden and have basic riding skills, starting, stopping and turning. At this time, we are not set-up for true "first time riders", though this could change if there is enough interest?

Unlike previous rides/classes, the woman's class will loop back to camp for a catered lunch on Saturday. The men's trailride will also loop back to camp for lunch on Saturday. The Sunday classes will need to make there own lunch as there wife’s and girlfriends will be out on the trail having fun. There will be two loops and optional shortcuts back to camp. There will be a challenging loop that will test any rider’s skills. In addition, we will have an easy route that will also include trail splits and shortcuts back to camp.

The class/ride will be catered and I am talking about really good food, not hot dogs and hamburgers! Saturday’s lunch and dinner and Sundays breakfast will be included. Off-Road riding instruction, a trailride and great food.

The cost will be $150.00 per person. Riders who have attended a previous class get a $25.00 discount. Directions will be provided by email about ten days prior to the ride/class only to pre-entered riders. We can accommodate up to 40 riders.

There will be separate classes for the men.

Can you tell us a little more about the area? What are local hotel and camping arrangements like? How far from said amenities will the school be? If camping is available, how primitive is it? IE, water, electrical hookups, etc?

The area is one hour from the nearest motels.

There are no hook-ups. Camping is primative. There's lots of green grass, flowers and trees. There are two small creeks. There are two porta-potties on the property. There may be non-potable water during the day when the water pumps are on to keep the area green. There is about 8.5 miles of dirt logging road to the property. The riding/class will stage from the camping area. Lunch, Dinner and Breakfast will be served in camp. One can tent camp or bring ones RV. I would discourage driving a very large rig/trailer, 40' plus. The campout is catered so everyone may focus on riding, the class, socializing and having fun. Not cooking and long drives to motels and food.

It is usually in the high 80's in August during the day and the 50-60 range at night. We would appreciate any riders coming from Oregon or Washington to bring wet weather, 1" to 1 1/2" would be perfect!

I'm from the dry side of the mountains--east of the Cascades is a TOTALLY different climate! It's dry here in August too. Still nice in the Cascades though.

I'd like to make it but finances right now aren't too great. We'll see what I can scrape together though.

Yeah!! I can't wait either! Just when the excitement of Oregon was dwindling down :ugg: Another ride school!! And hopefully most of us from Oregon school will be there together again, plus some more folks to meet too!!

I need to go assess my camping supplies, I seemed to have farmed it all out to relatives. Good excuse to go shopping at REI. :)

I am pleased to annouce that Heidi Landon, from Ashford, CT. will be joining us. Heidi is a regular on the GNCC circuit, competing in the Womans "A" division. Heidi also competes on a Quad as well. Heather and Heidi compete for Kawasaki's "Team Green".

There are a few spots still open, enter soon to be included in all the fun.

There will be no last minute post entries. The caterer needs the final count by August 1. If your are planning to join us please send in your entry soon.

The class last weekend went very well, we had 16 riders. We divided into two groups and one group hit the trails following a rollchart on Saturday and the other group participated in the class with Mike Pascrella and myself. The rollchart provided an early exit back to camp. We had three riders complete the entire course over the weekend and three more "A" riders who did the bonus loop. I think all enjoyed the ride. The class on Saturday did loop back to camp for lunch. Sundays class just wanted to ride, so we skipped lunch and kept riding after we completed drills and practice. We had one lady in the class and she was one of the riders who completed the entire course!

Please remember that we will be providing an easy loop and a more difficult loop. Both loops will provide early exits. The begginer loop will include a trail guide and sweeper to provide assistance if needed. We are making every effort to make this a fun weekend for all, regardless of skill level! I hope you will be joining us on August 10 & 11.

I will be very slow to respond to email questions in July. I am headed to Laguna Seca for the World Superbike Championship race and then off to Idaho to ride July 20-28. If you have questions in regard to the upcoming class/ride, please email me soon for a prompt reply.

Heather, Mike, Heidi and I are looking forward to meeting new friends and riding with you.

I mileaged the trail ride loop today. The Easy loop is 35 miles and those taking advantage of all the trail splits will ride just over 50 miles.

We have room for a few more riders. Entry deadline is July 30. Because this ride is catered, we must pre-pay for the food on August 1. If your planning on attending, please enter ASAP.

I'm working on a longer writeup, and detailed feedback for Dave, but I just wanted to extend huge thanks to Dave, Mike, Heather and Heidi for a great weekend of riding! I had a great time in class, learned a lot, and got a boost in my confidence riding some of the hairier sections. :eek:

Also thanks to the sweepers and guides, who did a great job of getting everyone back in one piece.

The excellent catering people made the best trailside food I have ever had!

To be honest, I almost blew off the class when it looked like it was going to be the hottest weekend of the year in NCal. But I am glad I gutted out the heat, mosquitoes and dust and was rewarded with some of the best riding I have ever experienced and excellent instruction.

Ditto what Frank said. Great job by all of Dave's crew. Heidi & Heather are great instructors and offer a slightly different perspective on things - I guess I'd call it more of a finesse thing. And yes, a petite woman CAN pick up a WR400..... must be a technique thing:D

The whole experience was great.I knew when we drove in we were headed for a great weekend. After many miles of gravel road we drove into a "jewel"of a setting for the ride school..I started grinning then and havent stopped yet.
Skills given were great.....dang that right turn on those figure 8's :-)...
The trail system AWESOME !!!! If given the opportunity to ride with Dave and his crew...I suggest doing it !.
Heidi & Heather.. I got into the goodie bag.. OH boy...green Kawi nail polish..too good...like the KTM orange too ..hehehe.
Much thanks for all who put it together and for all of you who fielded endless question and tirelessly nursed us through the woods !
Only regret is we didnt make it back in time Sun to eat the Sat leftover steak and salmon..OMG it was sooooo good !

To Howard where ever you are...the flowers are a wonderful touch !

We had 38 riders, as far away as Oregon and New York. Team Greens Heidi Landon, flew out from Conn. We had four instructors. Four guides/sweep riders, a cook and three helpers. We had self guided route sheets for our faster riders, several who rode nearly 100 miles of single track. Most riders rode 50 plus miles. Much of our trail was real single track, not the wide 50", ATV trails, found at California OHV areas. We had routes our 5 beginner riders could enjoy. We had contingency's for all, most bags valued at least $60.00 plus, in product and gift certificates. Many of our riders told me that I do not charge near enough for the good time, great people, awesome food, instruction and riding. Steve Hatch did a two day class on the same weekend in Colorado for $500.00. Most of our riders where on the trail at 9:00am and returned around 5:30pm. I have always tried to give riders a lot more than they expect when they ride with me. With 70% of my riders returning to do a second class and the positive feedback I get from those who attend the class. Please tell me who is conducting Off-Road classes at a more reasonable price and providing all that we provide and more? Our Beginner Woman's class had two instructors for five riders. Our largest womans class had two instructors for twelve riders. That is one instructor for every 6 riders. Our largest mens class had one instructor for 11 riders. In addition, we had a photographer, getting action and group shots of all. I take it that you see no value in the instruction, trail ride, lunch, breakfast, photos, guides and sweep riders and a gracious property owner, plus hundreds of volunteer hours invested in the area. Motololo you can conclude that $150.00 is to much for steak and salmon, well your right, the steak and salmon cost about $8.00. It was the deep dish peach and berry cobbler that drove the price up! We only charged $100.00 in July and I assume that was to much as well? In addition, we knock $25.00 off for anyone riding with us again. Those who attended the ride, is Motololo right, do you feel like you paid to much? In your area of the country, what is the going rate for Off-Road instruction or an MX class and what do you get for your money? I think most see the value and only wish more ride/classes took place in there part of the country.

I had a great weekend and look forward to doing it again!

This is the second class that I taken under Dave's instruction. It was worth every dollar . By the time my class ended, my goals for the class had been met. I was riding much smoother (faster :aj: than before the class.
