Hey y'all, what are most of you xr 400 people using for gearing. I am posting this for a friend who wants more low end grunt. He is currently running the stock sprockets.
thanks

run a 14 tooth sprocket on the front and keep stock rear. world of difference. i can ride in tighter woods more in 3rd and even use 2nd for the real technical nasty hill climbs. you do lose a good bit up top though, but in my woods i rarely ever see it.

I agree with HillTopper. I run the 14-45 and like it real well. Not only does it open up 2nd & 3rd gear on the tight stuff 1st works great for the ledgy, rocky hill climbs. I dont think I would go any lower though.

european standard on my 97 model is 15/45. since I do motocross on a very tight (youth) track I run 15/48 or 15/49. I like this also better in the enduro's I do, in soft, loamy fields where heavy pulling is required. i then still can get into 4th. It still tops 100 kph. Don't forget to shift up early.
