I am setting up a brand new xr-70 for my friends.

The clutch drags a considerable amount when it is placed in gear.

I seem to remember that this was an auto clutch of sorts and would allow the bike to idle in gear.

I have adjusted as per the manual on the pushrod but setting it on each side of the adjustment range yeilds the same results.

Idle rpm?

Worse when engine is cold?

I had the same symptoms on my sons xr 70 and after break in it was much better.

Idle rpm seems low enough, will try to lower it.
Cold is kinda relative in SF...

what do you mean by clutch drag when put in gear?

my sons will typically "pop" forward (rock forward) somewhat when put in gear but it goes no further. of course if you have any rpms to the thing or just come off rpms, as in playing with the trottle during warmup, it will pop more as the clutch must disengage slightly slower than the throttle response.

i find smooth upshifts difficult on this thing (2002 model) as it will jump forward on an upshift - can't seem to match speed/rpms -- but its an XR so it should not hurt the thing :^)
