What year is it, and what the heck is a "xr100/rm80 conversion"
Are you sure it's fouling from being too rich, could it be oil fouled instead? The reason I ask is the high altitude jet for the newer XR/CRF100's is a 92, if you run without the air box you should have to richen your jets/settings. A 90 main jet and next to top clip setting is very lean. A quick way to check is to put the choke on half way, if it runs better you are set up oo lean.
On my son's modified CRF100 at sea level I use a 42 slow, 114 main (I drill them myself), and somewhere within the middle three clip positions on the needled, depending on the weather. This is with an FMF pipe ported to match the exaust port, Hot Cams camshaft and a K&N air filter in the factory air box, with holes drilled in the top. The NGK iridium plug is always on the dark side but does not foul.
